RIP Mary.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and volunteer, Mary Smith, has passed away suddenly.

Mary was a much-loved member of the Uncovering Roman Carlisle family. Her warmth, friendship, enthusiasm and unwavering support for the project will be remembered fondly by everyone who had the pleasure of digging, chatting and sharing discoveries with her. She gave so much to our community, and her presence on site will be deeply missed.

Many of us had spoken with Mary only recently, which makes this news all the more difficult to comprehend. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and loved ones at this incredibly sad time.

Mary's funeral will take place on Tuesday 28th July at 12.20 pm at Carlisle Crematorium, followed by a celebration of her life at Brampton Golf Club. Her family have asked us to let everyone know that all are welcome to attend.
