🦖 Your dive brain still fears dinosaurs.
Not actual dinosaurs, obviously.
But your nervous system hasn't changed much since humans needed to respond quickly to threats in the wild.
Underwater, rising CO₂, contractions, and discomfort can trigger the same protective response:
"Get out."
"Abort."
"Something's wrong."
The mistake many divers make is treating every signal like an emergency.
When you immediately react—speed up, tense up, cut the dive short—you teach your nervous system that those sensations are dangerous.
But when you learn to stay present, soften instead of contract, and respond rather than react, your nervous system starts to learn something different:
"I've felt this before."
"I can handle this."
"We're safe."
This isn't about pushing through.
It's about building capacity.
Because the calmest divers aren't the ones who ignore signals.
They're the ones who understand them.
Happy World Dinosaur Day. 🦖
Train Freediving
Experience the thrill of freediving. Try it, love it #gethooked on the feeling + train with the best. If you’re working harder, you’ll struggle more.
The Train Freediving Team;
Nathan Vinski: Canadian Coach & Competitor. 90m CWT
Sarah Jane Russell: British Competitor: 140m DYN
We believe...
If you’re not training effectively, you’ll need to work harder. If you struggle more, you’ll do less. If you do less, you’ll be further away from your goal. When you’re training is effective, you’re in the proper flow state – no more struggle, no more

First time presenting at a festival
Nervous system: “Do you really want to do this?”
Me: “Yep.”
Nervous system: “Not sure about this — nausea, panic, urgent bathroom trips incoming.”
Me: “Still doing it.”
Nervous system: “We’re scared.”
Me: “We can do hard things.”
This wasn’t about overriding fear — it was about working with it.
I didn’t shock my nervous system. I trained it.
We built capacity through preparation, repetition, and time.
Talk written 6 weeks in advance. Rehearsed for a month. Enough reps for it to move from thinking into the body.
So when I showed up at the festival — first time presenting in that kind of space — fear was there, but it wasn’t unfamiliar or unmanageable. It was something I’d already been in dialogue with.
Not something to push through. Something to meet.
Feel it. Stay with it. Reassure the system. Keep going.
That’s nervous system regulation in real life: not the absence of fear, but the ability to feel it, stay present, and move through it without being overwhelmed.
I showed up curious, open, and ready to learn how it would land. Not perfect — just in process.
Nervous system: “Interesting.”
Me: “Told you we could do it.”
Nervous system: “Next time I’ll chill out.”
Me: “Appreciated 🙏🏻.”
We can do hard things.
