Ever wondered what’s different about 35+ Vets Rugby compared with a standard Rugby Union match?
Well… it’s still rugby! There’s tackling, rucks, tries and the occasional questionable decision from the referee. 😂
But the rules (Laws) can be adapted to make the game safer, more enjoyable and suitable for players who aren't necessarily training every week.
First off, All rules are subject to discussion pre-match between both teams and the Ref!
🏉 THE BIG DIFFERENCES
🔴 SHORTER HALVES
Games are played in shorter periods, usually 10–20 minutes per half, depending on the teams and format.
And if everyone still has some gas left in the tank… there’s always the possibility of a 3rd half! 🍻😂
🔴 ROLLING SUBSTITUTIONS
Players can come on and off throughout the game.
Need a breather? Get off.
Feeling fresh? Get back on.
Think you've still got it? Prove it! 💪
🔴 UNCONTESTED SCRUMS
Scrums are uncontested, meaning there is no pushing against the opposition. This reduces the physical load while keeping the scrum as part of the game.
🔴 NO LIFTING IN LINE-OUTS
Line-outs remain, but players cannot be lifted. You can still compete for the ball — just keep everyone's feet firmly on the ground!
🔴 SAFETY FIRST
Vets rugby can use modified rules to reduce unnecessary impact and help players enjoy the game without turning Monday morning into an appointment with the physio. 😂
🏉 WHAT STAYS THE SAME?
🏉 Rugby ball
💪 Tackles (unless you're wearing coloured shorts) 😂
🏃 A bit of running
🤝 Teamwork
😂 Plenty of banter
🍻 The social side
Vets rugby is still rugby.
It's just rugby with a few sensible adjustments to keep people playing, enjoying themselves and coming back for more.

A huge THANK YOU to every single person who came down today to lend a hand! 🐗🙌
Thanks to your incredible hard work, energy, and team spirit, our facilities are looking immaculate and in proper working order. From scrubbing down walls, taping up edges, and clearing out storage, to getting all the prep work done, you’ve set everything up perfectly for our painting and decorating contractor to work their magic on the Boars Hut. 🎨🔴🖤
A special shoutout to the younger helpers who put in a massive shift, and to everyone who rolled up their sleeves—we genuinely couldn't do it without our amazing community.
Give yourselves a huge pat on the back. Up the Boars! 🐗💪✨
