There has been lots of recent debate about the Oracle Handicaps, so I thought I would (a) explain their origin and purpose and (b) update them. Thank you to Marc Barrett for your help and thank you also to those that gave your opinions.... trust me, they all helped :-)
The Oracle Handicap system was designed by me some years ago, for use when we were running handicap competitions across Medway. The ranking of each player was based solely on my opinion and, largely, still is. They are not perfect but, now updated, we believe are pretty accurate and fair.
We have used the rankings more recently to determine the entry fee of each player into Chatham comps, which tend to have staggered entry fees, depending on a player's designated rank in the Oracles.
I will continue to update the Oracles and I will listen to all opinions... whether I act on that opinion is a different matter :-)
Marc and I have now also agreed that there will be one set of rankings, which we will use going forward for Chatham Comps.... attached is the latest Oracle Rankings....
