🖤 Our deepest condolences to the family, friends and teammates of Rachael Harvey-Purkiss. 🖤

Everyone at the Essex Women’s Walking Football League (EWWFL) is deeply saddened by the tragic death of Rachael.

Rachael was part of the Romford Walking Football squad, alongside teams who compete within the Essex women’s football community, making her part of our wider football family.

Rachael was in Romania on an animal rescue mission, helping to transport abandoned dogs to safety, when she was tragically killed in a multi-vehicle road collision near the Serbian border. Another British woman, Allison Condon, also sadly lost her life in the crash, along with several of the rescue dogs they were transporting.

It is heartbreaking to think that a journey undertaken with such kindness and compassion ended in such devastating circumstances.

Our thoughts are with Rachael’s family, friends, teammates and everyone who knew and loved her. We also send our deepest condolences to Allison’s family and everyone affected by this terrible tragedy.

A GoFundMe has been set up to support the families and the surviving rescue dogs. If you are able to donate or share the fundraiser, your support would be greatly appreciated.

From everyone at the EWWFL, our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Rachael’s family, friends and teammates at this incredibly difficult time.
