Why choose Chelmsford to play National League at?
To be honest, this could be why choose Chelmsford at all? We are proudly and rigidly a family friendly AND competitive performance club at a time where other clubs are choosing to be one or another.
Last season a quarter of our M1 team were pairs of brothers. Over half had been through our junior section. We invest in our coaches, our progression and we don’t play the trading game. We want you to come to our club, make good friends, stay…and win. We want to keep progressing.
Why? We’ve always been this way. We were winning the Euros and still a family club. We’ve always had a vibrant clubhouse. Ask our players about their memories…
So while we’ll keep up with and lead the advancements in training, qualifications, player and coach development so that we win, we actually want you to join our family. Even umpires like coming here!

Chelmsford Hockey Club is delighted to welcome Jason Bigara as the new Men’s 1st Team Coach.
Known throughout the club as a highly skilled player and respected leader, Jason brings a wealth of experience. His passion for developing players, commitment to high standards, and proven track record of success make him an exciting appointment for the club. Everyone at Chelmsford Hockey Club is looking forward to seeing Jason lead the Men’s 1s programme and help drive the club forward both on and off the pitch.
Jason is an experienced Director of Sport and high-performance coach with over 15 years of experience across the UK and South Africa. He currently leads sport across the Prep and Senior Schools at New Hall School, Chelmsford. Throughout his career, Jason has successfully developed and delivered high-performance sporting programmes, consistently creating environments that enable individuals and teams to excel.
Alongside his school leadership roles, he has gained valuable club experience as Lead Coach and Men’s 1st Team player at Sevenoaks Hockey Club, competing in the National League while supporting player development at all levels. His coaching philosophy is centred on discipline, accountability, enjoyment, and continuous improvement, with a strong focus on technical excellence, tactical understanding, and developing confident, resilient athletes.
Jason has led teams to national success, including achieving top national rankings, championship-winning performances, and unbeaten seasons. He remains passionate about using sport to develop young people, empower staff, and create environments where athletes, coaches, and teams can thrive.
