Big weekend at the club!

First M1 and L1 home double header weekend - L1 on Saturday and M1 on Sunday.

On Saturday the Chelmsford Hockey Club Ladies 1 XI will welcome Norwich Dragons HC we think for the first time Chelmsford.

The Chelmsford Hockey Club Men’s 1s welcome back OCHC 🏑 on Sunday.

The clubhouse and bar will open after both games and on Saturday night we have our first social of the season! Takeaway Night - a chilled get together with teammates to get to know each other and have some good food delivered.

Look forward to seeing you all there. Your support is always so valued - it’s what make watching games at Chelmsford so special!

Never too early to start recruitment hey?!

From next season, we’ll be looking for a new Chair of Welfare, Safeguarding and Compliance to take the reins over from me. It’s time for me to hang up my old hat and put the Development one on.

There’s a whole season now to consider this, find out more and shadow the role for a while. Message me (Gemma) or DM here and you’ll get me too.

Like lots of clubs, we are really struggling for umpires 😢 At the moment, you can count on one hand the number of umpires that do all the games. This isn’t sustainable.

There are success stories. The L1 player injured, so took up umpiring. Turns out she’s amazing! The returning player from uni - course done and straight into assessment.

We pay our umpires per game, so if you umpired the game before or after yours, which you’ll probably watch anyway, it will cover your match fees and your fuel or a drink at the bar.

Imagine if every team got 2 people to do the very short umpiring course? We’d have around 30 new umpires just like that. 30 new people who could earn £20 a game.

England Hockey are also developing a new umpire pathway, designed to support you in your development. We are lucky to have some of the best national umpires in our club who will also support you.

So who will step up to the plate in your team?

Second game of the season is across the bridge to old friends Canterbury Hockey Club.

We started strong last week with new squad members, new coaches, new formations, new sticks, new shoes. We’ll be aiming for 3 points against a new member to East Conf.

Welcoming Joe Nichols making his National League debut this week.
