Great bit of viewing this weekend with the GB Cup.
A tough fought battle between and in the final.
It’s been a solid start to the off-season for both of these guys. The main thing you ask for as a coach is committed athletes who are invested in their journey, and these boys deliver on both fronts.
An exciting time ahead with both making the .surfing progression squad.
Time to get back to work 😈💪

Winner winner chicken dinner 🏆
Firstly, a HUGE congrats to one of the squad on becoming European Women’s Longboard Champion. Thoroughly deserved, so strong throughout the whole competition and I’m so glad it all came together in the final!
The last couple of weeks in Portugal has been amazing being able to support and surf with all the squad.
Some great performances and a nice warm-up competition for the QS gang which kicks off soon with Boardmasters.
Supporting these guys is an absolute honour, knowing the work they put in behind the scenes and the challenges they face.
also put on an absolute masterclass to take home his 12th Men’s Longboard title and helping secure 3rd in the European rankings 🔥
Here are some pictures I’ve stolen from the comp as well as 1 of me after getting washed around the rocks at Ribeira.. and 1 of the main reason we all visit Portugal 😜
Let the the next stint of comps begin 😈

Jul 23 - 61cm 💥
I heard a really impactful statement from a recent conference by Des Ryan.
“I have worked with a lot of gifted athletes, but not many talented athletes.”
What separates them was not the skills in their toolbox or specific physical outputs. It is what most people disregard.
Consistently showing up
Training with intensity
Asking questions
Listening
What might seem easy is in fact what separates athletes when moving to the top. It’s hard to stay consistent, be willing to learn and train with the right intensity day in, day out.
Now these numbers posted above are a testament to attributes I’ve mentioned as well as buying into the process. It’s a long road and this is just one part of the puzzle, but we are moving in the right direction and as you can tell we are stoked with the results.
Keep up the good work . The 60cm club is an impressive one ☝️

2023 is fully underway with a load of the crew out competing in Morocco 🇲🇦.
The dedication and attention to detail everyone has shown to their preparation over the past few months is the reason I love my job.
In a sport that has so many uncontrollable factors, it is important to control what we can.
Skill set, physical preparation, nutrition and recovery strategies are all under that umbrella and can boost your likelihood of success in an unpredictable environment.
A strong start to the year especially with earning a place in the World Finals at Bells Beach after taking 1st in the Grom Search.
2023, let’s gooo! 💪

Girls camp ✅
Another jam packed few days and the girls smashed it.
Being part of a group of people who are all driving towards the same goal is a fantastic feeling.
The benchmark has been set and I’m excited to see how it unfolds for each athlete.
Thank you for hosting and all the coaching staff for pulling together an amazing camp.

Another all wrapped up with very subpar conditions for all the surfers.
A great week meeting up with a load of the squad. Being able to support these amazing surfers and see them in action is exactly why I love my job.
Big up to and taking the 🥇 and 🥈 in the junior event.
Until next year!

After a 10 year hiatus I got the gi back on last night and had rip my head off for 2 hours.
I always loved my jiujitsu. I think it develops an awareness and understanding of bodyweight control that a lot of sports don’t give you.
I also think its highlights the power of controlled breathing and remaining relaxed during moments of high stress.
An awesome session! Maybe it’s the start of the return… 👀

U18 European Champion 🏆
Congratulations to one of the most dedicated and committed athletes on her recent performances in Pantin (2nd) and now European Champ!
As a coach there’s nothing I love more than seeing hard work and persistence pay off.
This still just feels like the beginning! Keep the ball rolling champ 🏆🤙
An outstanding result all round for Team England, 4th overall!
Congratulations to .s also bringing home the 🏆🏆
There’s some serious talent coming through and some real role models emerging. An exciting time for British surfing!

If I haven’t gassed up the crew who were out in El Salvador competing in the World Junior Champs enough, I’m going to one more time
What an event with some serious results. So sick watching the whole England team putting their body’s on the line each day and big up to all the coaches who were out providing knowledge and support to the team
I have been lucky enough to support a number of the team and wanted to give an insight into how hard working these athletes are and their commitment to improve
Whether its paddling sessions during flat periods, heavy strength work or sessions during surf trips, doesn’t miss. She has been so consistent over the past couple of years with her performance stats and results speaking for themselves. If you want to get anywhere in sport, in starts with showing up every day
has been progressing so fast since we started, honing skills and putting in work whilst out in Bali. It says a lot when you’ve surfed multiple times in a day, come home and then complete a full session with limited equipment, space and a hell of a lot of heat. It would be easy to say “f*ck it” and put it off. It’s with this attitude that he has gone above and beyond, put in a crazy performance and currently ranked 6th in the world 🤯
is the same, her progression has been crazy in the past few months whilst juggling surf trips, preparing for exams, passing her driving test as well as the sessions I’m building for her! Tegan started with me after already doing a bit of gym work on her own and in order to progress further we had to pull back on the strength work, work on movement quality and build some more mobility. One of the hardest things to do if you are a fan of the weights is to take weight off the bar and understand we need to prioritise movement over load
Basically, these guys are awesome and are turning into real role models

Here is 2 months of progress from who is part of the online squad 🏄♀️
We highlighted early on that there were some clear mobility deficiencies that needed addressing.
Surfing, like a lot of sports requires us to absorb and produce force, sometimes in some pretty extreme positions and if we don’t have the required mobility to achieve these positions, the body will try to solve it using other joints or postures.
This doesn’t necessarily mean injury, but it means it will be harder to be critical with manoeuvres and maximise force production.
Heading into a busy couple of months with the Worlds and National Champs, Tegan continues to bank sessions and optimise the package she can bring to each comp
