Massive congratulations to our first-ever student nurse Paulo Laxamana.
Paulo started with us in January in his final placement on his third year. He did so well and enjoyed working with us so much that he has joined us as a bank nurse!
Paulo has completed his studies and on 21st March was awarded his PIN and is now an official Registered Nurse!
We're so proud of Paulo for achieving this and look forward to working with him as a nurse from now.

Congratulations to Bridget Montano and Adaeze Okoye for passing their inductions!
Bridget, who is a bank care assistant, came to us with previous experience in the NHS. Adaeze has just completed a Master's course at university and works a combination of days and nights as a care assistant.
Both have completed the Care Certificate and it's great to have them as permanent members of our team!

Four of our night care assistants - Diane Smith, Sam Emsley, Laura Gardiner and Liz Smith - are taking part in the "Great Tommy Sleep Out", raising money for the Royal British Legion Industries to support homeless UK veterans this Sunday ๐ช
As they work nights, their favourite place is their bed, but they'll be ditching that for a sleeping bag and some tarpaulin in the great outdoors! ๐
If you're able to donate, it would mean a huge deal to them and the charity! Milkwood are matching all the donations they receive! Donations can be made here: https://www.facebook.com/donate/699550115686397/?fundraiser_source=whatsapp_share

Congratulations to Holly Gardiner, Val Tircs and Alice Smith for passing their care assistant inductions!
Holly, who turns 18 in March, has been at Castleford for just over a year, working as a kitchen assistant before transitioning into care. The senior who signed her off said "Holly is a fantastic carer!"
Alice came to us from home care, having been inspired to apply after seeing Josie attend the George Ezra concert. Alice was told "everyone you support in the morning looks amazing, you are so caring!"
Val has worked days and nights during her induction, but now exclusively works days. Feedback from Val's induction included "I have absolutely enjoyed working alongside you!"
It's amazing to welcome all three of them as fully-fledged members of the Castleford House care team!

๐ Best Outstanding Contribution 2023 ๐
On Monday 5th February we held our second ever "Best Outstanding Contribution of the Year" award event. We took the best Outstanding Contributions from 2023 and asked relatives and loved ones to vote for the best.
This year's voting, remarkably, saw a tie for first place that necessitated a second vote, That shows how incredibly close it was.
A massive congratulations goes to night care assistants Sarah Jones and Andrea Hardy, who won for the following nomination:
"You stayed on after your night shift had finished to sit with our new resident when they were really poorly and their family could not come. They passed away with you there. You showed the best of Castleford."
In close second place was Gillian Hill for her nomination: "For standing out in what was an incredibly stressful and difficult situation, guiding the team to support a resident in the best way possible. You stayed with the resident and showed an enormous amount of care and love for them. You should be incredibly proud of the way that you show your care and support, not only for the residents, but for your colleagues, too."
A huge well done, also, to our runners up:
Andrea Field
Laura Gardiner
We are so proud to be able to reward our colleagues for their hard work and dedication. The rewards are well-deserved and thank you to everyone for their nominations and votes - it means a lot to the team that people think enough of them to do this for them!

๐ Manual Handling Ambassador Training ๐
Some of the team recently took part in Manual Handling Ambassador training, to sharpen their knowledge and learn new skills.
The focus of the role is to be able to support new team members learn manual handling skills, help current colleagues maintain best practice, and make sure that people receive the best manual handling possible.
Registered Nurse Rebeka Morgan, senior carers Fiona Hutchings, Sarah Jones, Kara Lewis and Kat Sadzikowska, student nurse Paulo Laxamana and our newest senior carer Joslyn Ponter all took part in this latest session.

We have given out December's Outstanding Contributions. The first went to nurse Julie Norton, who received two nominations that said:
"During a recent visit with mum, you were carrying out your duties as usual, in a very professional way, and although you were clearly unwell, you continued to show compassion and kindness to the residents.
You are proactive and professional at all times, but are also the life and soul! A joy to work with."
The second Outstanding Contribution in December was also voted our "Best Outstanding Contribution Fourth Quarter 2024". It was an amazing nomination that said:
"For standing out in what was an incredibly stressful and difficult situation, guiding the team to support a resident in the best way possible. You stayed with them and showed an enormous amount of care and love for them. You should be incredibly proud of the way that you show your care and support, not only for the residents, but for your colleagues, too."
And the winner of "Best Outstanding Contribution Fourth Quarter 2023" is care assistant Gill Hill! A huge well done to Gill!
With Gill winning, the stage is now set for our "Best Outstanding Contribution 2023" award - the shortlist will be announced in a post very soon!
