The next group we'd love to talk to you about is the Undercover Research Group.
Undercover Research Group was founded in 2013 to reveal, monitor and analyse political policing in the UK. Undercover Research Group is made up of activists and researchers, some with personal experience of police infiltration. In 2010 the Metropolitan Police used the “bad apple” excuse to explain away the behavior of Mark Kennedy, who deceived multiple women into relationships. The URG worked to uncover a pattern of behaviour emerging from multiple police officers - exposing the lie in this excuse.
The URG have collaborated in the discovery and exposure of multiple undercover police officers, and they have contributed to Guardian and BBC coverage of the subject.
We’ve been working closely with Chris Brian from the URG on Demand The Impossible. Chris said “I am really buzzed to be involved with this project – and know that Common/Wealth will do justice to this great injustice and bring it to a new audience in an insightful, innovative and thrilling way.”
We're just as buzzed to be working with Chris!

A classic example of racists spreading disinformation on social media. Media Revolution
🛑 FALSE RUMOUR ABOUT BRONWYDD HOUSE. PLEASE READ AND SHARE
A post is circulating on social media falsely claiming that Bronwydd House in Porth is being turned into a mosque. It includes what looks like a planning notice with reference number 18/0859/10.
After a full investigation by the Porth & District Chamber of Trade, we can confirm this claim is completely false.
✅ The planning reference number 18/0859/10 is real, but it has nothing to do with Bronwydd House or any mosque.
The actual application reads:
“Demolish existing rear lean-to and build new single-storey extension”
📍 Location: Property at Rickards Street, Glynfach, Porth, CF39 9LL
🗓 Approved: 23 October 2018
There is no mention of Bronwydd, no mosque, and no connection to a place of worship. This was a simple domestic house extension.
The Chamber thoroughly checked the RCT Planning Portal, reviewed the full application details, and verified that the information in the circulating post is entirely fabricated.
There is:
– ❌ No planning application for any mosque at Bronwydd
– ❌ No consultation, notice, or approval process underway
– ❌ No known plans, either past or present, to convert the building to religious use
The post uses a genuine planning reference, twisted out of context, to spread a harmful and misleading narrative. It appears intended to provoke fear and stir up division.
📢 We urge the public:
– ✅ Please do not share or engage with this false post
– ✅ Report it on Facebook or any other platform
– ✅ Always verify claims using official sources:

Edit: for some context of its ownership, we carried out an investigation in 2023 and the following is what we found:
Bronwydd House and its grounds were once part of a large private estate. The parkland was donated to the public, becoming Bronwydd Park, while the house and remaining land stayed in private hands, passing through the family of William Evans.
After William’s death, the estate was inherited by his brother and then passed down the family line. Over time, much of the estate was sold off and divided between siblings, leaving the house with Clifford Gwynne Davies and his wife, who, along with Evan Philip Dunn, were the final beneficiaries and sold it.
In June 1950, they sold Bronwydd House to Rhondda Urban District Council for £975(unadjusted). The Council had already secured planning permission to convert it into offices.
The building is owned outright by the Council, with no covenants, no trust, and no restrictions. Today, the park and the house have separate ownership histories, despite once being one estate

And that really, really REALLY is a wrap. Crew are sat around the fire getting all accapella and looking forward to next year.
Some of us are in regular contact, some only see eachother here. But we all meet up and connect as if we had seen eachother last week. And we all share dreams of a more positive and more progressive future.
If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.
For evil to triumph, all us needed is for good people to do nothing.
See ya next year. Another future is possible.

Throughout the weekend you will have had several opportunities to participate in discussion around Undercover Policing and the scandalous way the state spied on legitimate protest groups. From climate campaigners, trade unions and anti-racist groups to political parties, animal rights activists and even a vegan restaurant guide.
Their methods were underhand and included relationships with women who had no idea they were taking police officers to their bed.
There's an ongoing national enquiry into what went on. There are several books, podcasts and a TV documentary on the subject.
This autumn there will be a play looking at the subject, being staged in the Corn Exchange Newport by the Common Wealth Theatre Co
Demand the Impossible is part-performance, part punk-gig, part-sensory experience, exploring police injustice and the undercover infiltration of activist networks. It challenges us to question truth, trust and power, as uncomfortable relationships between the state, police and citizens are exposed.
