Its with a broken heart I want to inform those who didn't already know about the passing of John Roper on Friday 23rd January.
A lot of you will have fished with John or met him on the bank over the years. He will be deeply missed by all of us who knew him.
I have managed to let a lot of people know in the shop but at this time of year we dont see all of you

For Those Who Don’t Get Carp Fishing…
To the ones who don’t fish, it probably looks strange. Hours – sometimes days – sat by the water, watching a motionless rod, waiting for a bite that might never come. They see the bivvies, the gear, the long nights, and ask, “What’s the point if you don’t even catch?”
But that’s exactly what they don’t see.
What they don’t see is the peace that comes from being outdoors, away from noise, pressure, and screens. The quiet moments where the world slows down. The simple rhythm of nature – birds overhead, the ripple of water, the wind through the trees. There’s something deeply grounding in it.
They don’t understand how the sessions start short – a few hours after work – but soon grow into weekends and longer, not just because of the fish, but because of how it makes you feel. That feeling of switching off. Reconnecting. Thinking, or sometimes not thinking at all.
Even blanking brings benefits. It teaches patience, reflection, and appreciation for the experience, not just the outcome.
Carp fishing isn’t just a hobby – it’s therapy. And for those who’ve never held a rod or watched a sunrise from the bankside, that might be hard to grasp. But for us, it’s everything.

Tackling Minds has made history as the first organisation to secure NHS funding for delivering transformative fishing sessions! In groundbreaking collaborative research, Tackling Minds, Angling Direct and Anglia Anglia Ruskin University, have proven that fishing isn't just a sport or a hobby - it's a lifeline. Results reveal that it reduces the risk of anxiety and schizophrenia, combats depression, and even lowers su***de rates among participants. 🎣=💊
The NHS funding awarded to Tackling Minds has truly been a game-changer. It has not only endorsed the effectiveness of fishing as a therapeutic activity, but also signaled a shift in the medical professionals approach to mental health treatments. 👏👏
Many medical professionals tend to focus on conventional therapies and pharmaceuticals. However, this pioneering initiative has shed light on the potency of non-traditional, outdoor-based therapeutic practices in promoting mental wellbeing. It has illustrated that sometimes the best 'prescription' could be fresh air, tranquil waters, and a spot of fishing. 🎣=💊
FISHING IS NOT A SPORT, IT’S A WAY OF LIFE
