Game week 3 and up to Northumberland this morning against a very good team who beat us comfortably twice last season and then put us out of the cup.

It was a very tight first half with some good battles all over the pitch. Most of the action being in midfield, neither keeper properly tested and both sets of defenders winning most of their duels.

The deadlock was broke late on the first half when Alfie was quick react to a goalkeeper error who in turn brought down Alfie while trying to recover. Alfie stepped up and slotted home from the spot. 1-0 at half time.

Work rate off the ball excellent from the lads, as well as discipline in our shape.

The 2nd half was more of the same. A very tight contest; Birtley stinging the hands of their keeper a couple of times, and the opponents missing a penalty.

An equaliser came late on with a neat header from a corner that found the top bin. Great finish to tbf; the lad lost his marker and placed it to give Joey no chance.

We needed the lads to dig deep from here to try and get a winner without conceding another. They were excellent and disciplined and showed great courage and fitness to attack and defend. One last chance for us when Seb was first to react to a second ball and managed to lift it forward for Jack to get on the end of. Not much time or space for Jack but he somehow managed to get it over their outrushing keeper and bounce over the line. 2-1!

Not over yet. The opposition turned the screw and created a great chance to equalise. A magnificent save low to his right from Joey secured the 3 points for us today. Full time.

Brilliant from the lads today. All of them winning battles, excellent off the ball. Excellent discipline and shape and showed great character to get back on top after conceding late on.

Coaches MOMs today went to Joey. To stay focused and keep his concentration when not really tested until that last minute was incredible; saved the game for us. Other coaches MOM was big Henry. He kept a very good player quiet today, was calm and rock solid until the end.

Opposition MOM went to Sonny and Seb for their performances in centre midfield.

After last week’s heartache, we were looking for a reaction from the lads. And they bounced back!

No easy games in this league; today we played against a team who beat us twice last season and again in preseason.

Positive, determined and aggressive from the first whistle the lads were the stronger side, but found another keeper on fine form keeping the score at 0-0. Around the 20 minute mark we finally found the net. A delicious corner from Albie right into the mixer, finished by Alfie from close range after the keeper parried from a Henry header. 1-0 and thoroughly deserved.

2-0 soon after and another Albie assist, nodding through for Alfie to race clear and smash it low and hard into the far corner. 2-0.

More of the same 2nd half. Keep it tight for 10 minutes and don’t let them back in was the instruction. The lads went 1 better and got a 3rd early on. Excellent scrap, determination and composure from Sonny to keep possession in their box, then to pick the right pass to Charlie at the edge of the box who buried it top left. The keeper no chance. 3-0.

More fine keeping from their lad in the sticks kept the score at 3-0, but more importantly, huge credit to all of our lads for staying on top, keeping them out and pushing for more.

Brilliant discipline and attitudes from all the lads today with some very strong individual performances. Coaches MOMs go to Seb and Sonny. Seb with a rock solid debut at team captain, won everting, stopped everything and got us playing. Sonny with a fierce display, covering every blade of grass and dominated the midfield.

Opposition MOM also went to Sonny.

1st game o f the season and a bitter pill for us at full time.

Flying in the 1st half with a lovely lob from Jack after a ball over the top from Joey. Charlie adding a thunder bolt from the edge of the box to make it 2-0. The opposition keeper playing out of his skin; it could have been a lot more if we took our chances .

2nd half was a sickener. A very soft goal to concede in the first minute let them back in it. Caught out by 2 long balls carried by the wind put us 3-2 down.

We had a hat load of chances and should have been out of sight, but poor finishing and a keeper on fine form meant we lose 3-2 on the opening day.

Coaches MOM go to Jack and Sonny, both with disciplined and quality from start to finish. Their coach gave to it Big Henry on his debut with an assured display at CB.

End of season festival at Flamingo Land! What a weekend. Most goals scored, zero conceded; losing the final on penalties. A fantastic weekend of football and fun!

Heck of a day at the club fun day and presentation for the lads.

Last season we managed to stay in this division by the skin of our teeth, we finished in the relegation zone but after a drop out from the league it meant we could stay.

That was a difficult season and as much as the lads put the graft in, it hard to watch at times. With a couple of lads leaving, it left us a bit of room to recruit over the summer to strengthen, that’s when we welcomed Will, Seb, Alfie, Charlie and Blake to the Greens.

The difficulty of this division didn’t change and we found it just as hard again from the off, 1 win in the first 6. With a couple of lads then leaving for new challenges we welcomed Jacob to the team.

Santa must have been good to the lads though because from this point on their effort, desire and belief started to shoot up, picking up some vital wins and giving some of the big teams a rattle. The lads resilience and consistent hard graft paid dividends as the season went on, reaching a Cup Semi Final only just loosing out 4-3 to one the big teams. And also winning 6 out their last 7 games including 2 huge scalps over 2 big hitters.

This was our best season yet, finishing in 6th place and means they play at the highest level possible for the 3rd season running. We can be canny tough on them at times so all credit to them for the graft they put in on the training pitch and in games and pushing themselves to be better. A tremendous season.

Last game of the season today, aiming for 5 wins on the bounce, against one of the big hitters.

After Thursday’s win we asked for the same approach and attitude. And that’s what the lads produced. Absolutely rampant against one of the big 5.

Charlie switched on from the off dispossessed their defender when playing out from the back, and thumped it home. No messing about. 1-0 early on.

The lads remained on top and soon after Jack lashed one home totally out of the blue from 25 yards. An absolute rocket right in the top corner. 2-0, what a start!

And it got better! Great work and skill from Jacob out wide, beating a few men to pull it back to Will on the edge of the box. Will’s shot save but parried to Charlie who wasn’t playing games. 3-0.

More pressure on their back line lead to a corner drilled in by Charlie, and met with bullet header from Jack, back the way it came, straight in the top right corner. Another outrageous goal from Jack to take him to 20 for the season. 4-0.

Half time. An incredible scoreline for us, but fully expecting the opposition to step it up from the kick off.

And that’s what they did. They piled on the pressure and pulled one back quite quickly when we failed to react to a shot that came off the bar. 4-1.

Fair play to the lads, they scrapped and got themselves back in the game. Charlie involved again winning the ball in midfield and driving forward, finding Jack with an inch perfect through ball who took it on and buried it. 5-1 and a hat-trick.

The game started to go end to end, and they pulled another back, but only for the lads to take control of the game again and score a 6th from the spot after Alfie was brought down. Charlie smashing it home for his hat-trick. 6-2 FT.

An unbelievable score and performance from The Greens to finish the season with 5 wins in a row, including 2 against 2 of the big hitters in the division.

MOM was a no brainer. All of the lads put in another cracking shift, but for a hat-trick each it goes to Jack and Charlie, plus 2 assists for Charlie. Absolutely brilliant. 🙌.
