On Saturday 25th July, our very own David and Daniel will be teaching a kumite course in Largs. Everyone welcome!

On Saturday, Jim, Daniel and David made the trip up to Largs in Scotland to take part in the Scottish Karate Alliance Open, alongside our friends in the Shinzen squad. An interesting day's competition, where Shinzen grabbed a lot of medals. Our contingent came back with: David getting gold in Ippon kumite, and silver in Sanbon, Daniel getting bronze in both Ippon and Sanbon, Jim getting silver in both kata and Sanbon kumite, and the team with Daniel and David getting gold.

Great day today at the Sunderland Karate Championships. Everyone performed really well, gaining valuable experience. Well done to everyone. Scott performed well at his first ever event. Mike did well in kata and fought very well, going out in the second round but improving all the time. Joseph was unlucky in kata, and showed what a good fighter he is, winning his first round match with some fast front hands. Emi is getting better and gaining confidence all the time, and achieved a fine fourth place medal in the under 10 kata. William Fox also fought very well, and came away with a good fourth place medal in brown belt kata. Matty was also unlucky in kata, but fought all the way to the final and gained silver, only losing out to a good fighter from Leeds. Will M did a great job as team captain, as he always does, and was very unlucky not to make the final of his kumite, but still gained bronze. We're very proud of everyone.

On Saturday, we were at the Scottish Open in Dundee. Emi and Mike entered their first competition, and performed amazingly well. It's a big competition, with a lot going on, and daunting for your first one. Emi finished 7th, just missing the final in the 8 and under kata, and then 12th in a large 9 to 10 year old kata category. Mike performed well in both his kata and kumite, and helped the team rotation to the quarter finals. William Fox had a strong kata category, but ended up in joint 4th, and handled his first kumite bouts really well, with the highlight being a superb ippon in the first round of the team rotation. William Marshall was in a high quality kata competition and got 5th, and fought well. Daniel brought us back a bronze in his weighted kumite, and Jim got a silver in kata and a bronze in kumite. Congratulations also to Matt Hudson for his two bronzes, one in kata and one kumite.

On Saturday, we had a small team competing at the KUGB Nationals in Nottingham. Great performances from our 3 competitors, with the highlight being William Fox missing out on the final by the narrowest of margins in Children's brown belt kata. Thanks to Daniel and David for coaching.
