People often think counselling is about giving advice.
It isn't.
For me, it's about helping you understand yourself.
Why do certain situations affect you so deeply?
Why do the same patterns keep repeating?
Why do you react in ways you wish you didn't?
When we begin to understand ourselves with compassion rather than criticism, things often start to shift.
You don't have to have everything figured out before reaching out.
Sometimes understanding is where healing begins.

Have you ever felt like you're wearing a mask?π
Many of us spend years becoming the person we think we should be. We learn to keep the peace, stay strong, please others, hide our feelings or pretend we're coping.
Those ways of being often developed for a reason. At one time, they helped us get through difficult situations. But what once protected us can eventually leave us feeling disconnected from who we really are.
Counselling isn't about changing who you are.
It's about gently peeling back the layers that no longer serve you, so you can reconnect with the person who has been there all along.
Not a perfect version of yourself.
Not a different version of yourself.
Just a more authentic one.

If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed or simply ready to understand yourself more deeply, I'd be happy to talk.
I offer a free 15β20 minute telephone consultation so you can ask any questions and see whether we're the right fit.
"When I have the confidence, I will..."
Have you ever caught yourself saying that?
When I have the confidence, I'll speak in public.
When I have the confidence, I'll apply for the job.
When I have the confidence, I'll go to the networking event.
When I have the confidence, I'll ask someone out.
The problem is that confidence rarely arrives first.
Most of us imagine that confidence comes before action.
In reality, confidence usually comes after action.
We do the thing.
We survive the thing.
Then we realise we can do it again.
And little by little, confidence grows.
People with social anxiety don't become confident and then start socialising.
People who fear flying don't suddenly become confident and then board a plane.
People who fear public speaking don't wake up one morning feeling fearless and volunteer to stand on a stage.
Confidence is often built by repeatedly doing the thing that scares us.
Not recklessly.
Not all at once.
But one small step at a time.
Counselling and coaching can help you understand your fears, challenge the stories that keep you stuck and find the courage to take those first small steps.
Because confidence isn't usually the starting point.
It's often the reward for showing up despite the fear.

If only we could predict the future. Well, we kind of can, what we do πππ will affect ππππ.
A reflection from the therapy room.
So many people carry the feeling that they are not enough, and often believe they are the only one.
Maybe the answer is not to become "good enough." Maybe the answer is to recognise that we are already enough.
I offer counselling and coaching online and in person in Chester. Message me to find out more.

Have you ever felt drunk on your own thoughts?
Sometimes overthinking can feel a bit like that.
You start to lose your sense of balance. Your judgement becomes impaired. You can't seem to make a decision. Things feel more dramatic than they really are.
You find yourself staring at the ceiling at 3am while your mind spins through every possible scenario. Then morning arrives and your head still feels foggy.
When our thinking becomes negative and relentless, it can take a real toll on our wellbeing.
One of the benefits of counselling and coaching is that it gives you somewhere to bring those thoughts.
To air them.
To hear them out loud.
To question them.
To lay some of them down.
Overthinking is exhausting. The more we live in our fears about the future, the less energy we have for the present.
As we learn to focus on thoughts that are more constructive and realistic, we often find ourselves taking small actions instead of remaining frozen in fear.
And those small actions can gradually bring a greater sense of confidence, clarity and peace.
Sometimes relief doesn't come from thinking harder.
Sometimes it comes from thinking differently.
