A Gala on the day of the opening was held and members of the Chester Swimming Club performed an exhibition of ornamental swimming.

The Chester Amateur Swimming Club began in 1894 in a Floating Bath on the River Dee transferring to the newly built City Baths when it opened in September 1901. In the early days the swimming standards improved and the water polo team became a major attraction to the City, bringing large crowds of spectators to the league matches. Some of our development swimmers headed to Holywell to experience a fantastic introduction to competitive swimming.

They were treated to some exhibition swims by the senior swimmers, shown how to start and even looked after from the start of marshalling, right through to their race by the Holywell team.

Spot prizes were in abundance and winning a giant pack of haribo seemed to be a great incentive to help some lightening quick swims. Well done everyone, and as ever, huge thanks to the very well behaved swimmers, parents, coaches and team managers for making it possible!
