Matlock vs Somersall Lightning u15s

An early grey morning in Matlock, soon brightened up with a flash of Lightning ⚡

Once awake and settled, Lightning took control of the game. A difficult one for me to keep track of so please bear with...

The score board opened with Henry assisting Carter, who striked the ball from a difficult angle on the left 0-1.
Within 2 mins, Carter went on a run along and again put in a perfect strike from the left 0-2.
Henry again working hard with an assist for Rubens first of the game 0-3.
Maltock was given a free kick for what we thought was a fair but tough challenge. Their player hitting it perfectly and just beating our Charlie 1-3.
Nethertheless, Ben picked up where we left off, with some fantastic footwork at close range 1-4.
Nearing the end of the first half, Olly B came in for a corner scoring a proper centre half header. 1-5 at half time.

2nd half... And the goals kept on coming! Please forgive me for the lack of great detail 😅...
Ethan headed in a corner from Riley 1-6.
Ruben scored a tap in 1-7
Henry took the ball around their keeper 1-8
Olly Bailey volleyed the ball in from a corner 1-9
Ruben intercepted the ball from their goal kick and scored for his hat trick ⚽⚽⚽ 1-10
Carter out through a low pass to Stan who smashed the ball into the back of the net 1-11
Charlie made a clearance from his box which dropped perfectly for Ben to run on to and put past the keeper 1-12
Riley went on a fantastic run on the right hand side, passing through to Ben for his hat trick ⚽⚽⚽ 1-13
Theo worked hard once he got on the pitch, assisting Ben 1-14
Then Lightning was awarded a penalty for a blatant hand ball. GK Charlie stepped up and smashed the ball into the net with a great strike 1-15.
Closing minutes of the game but there was one more in us... With Riley assisting Billy who was extactic with his goal. Final score Matlock 1 - 16 Lightning.

MOTM goes to Olly B and Billy for their exceptional hard work today. Every one of the lads had a fantastic game again. Very very promising. They seem to be gelling really well and Curt and I love to see them celebrating goals, saves and tackles with each other on the pitch and from the sub's bench 👌

Staveley vs Somersall Lightning u15s

Our first pre-season friendly vs a Staveley team that we have previously lost against on 2 or 3 occasions, but Curt and I felt excited for this one.

Lightning started strong, with all of the possession and build up play resulting in the first goal of the game for Ethan with an assist from Carter 0-1.

First round of sub's and Lighting continued to pile on the pressure, however it took us right up towards the end of the first half for Josh to make a fantastic run from left back and assist Henry 0-2. Half time

The second half we tried a different formation, which once settled really seemed to work well for us. Ruben intercepting the ball and putting a perfect through ball to Stan 0-3. More subs and it was Archies turn to play up top, who was extatic to bag a goal after an assist from Carter 0-4 (Archie didn't stop smiling for the rest of the game!) 😁. The lads continued with some fantastic football, with the ball falling to Ben, hitting him on the shoulder assisting Ethan with his 2nd of the evening 0-5. All change again with our sub's and Henry, with shouts from his teammates to "SHOOT!" had a dig from just inside their half, beating their keeper from distance 0-6! Lightning saw out the rest of the game with some decent footie. Final whistle Staveley 0-6 Lightning ⚡

MOTM went to both Carter and Ethan for their hard work.

Well done lads, some really good football this evening. Composed. Clever. Calm.
Curt and I really enjoyed coaching and watching this one... Early days, but we predict a very promising season ahead!

Chesterfield Town vs Somersall Lightning

Last game of the season... And the lads almost had us worried there!

Away at Stand Road vs well known opponents Chesterfield Town Jrs.

Lightning started a little off pace today, not really testing Chesterfield right up until James fired a rocket in the 15th min after an assist from Ollys throw in 0-1. However Chesterfield turned up the pressure and after breaking through a few times, the ball fell to their striker and they scored 1-1. Chesterfield kept the pressure up for the remainder of the first half, with Carter making the only difference scoring for us in the 31st bringing us in 1-2 up at HT.
A change of formation for the second half and eventually the Lightning that we know and love, woke up! Ben scoring 4 goals in the 38th, 45th (Olly assist) 66th (Carter assist) and again in the 66th (Carter assist). The boys finishing the season off with some quality football 👌 1-6 at full time.

MOTM this week, Ben for a fantastic second half performance, bagging 4. And Lewis who was solid at the back, possibly his best defensive performance of the season.

Lads - what a season. Curt and I are proud of every single one of you.

CJB Pythons U17 4-1 Somersall Dragons U17

Not the result we wanted today

We told the lads that they would be physical and get in our faces

We just needed to not get involved and just concentrate on playing football but they didn’t listen and first half just proved that as we came in at halftime 4-0 down

We had a chat at halftime and just said don’t get involved play the football we can and just win the second half

The boys did that as we won the second half 0-1 we played good football but we couldn’t put ball in net had plenty of chances and looked a lot better second half

Some good individual performances stand out today Luca was quality especially in second half and Reece outstanding when he came out of goal

Man of match went to Mikey a cracking performance always a threat going forward but even better at defending today well done Mikey

Refs man of match went to Archie another quality display in midfield putting in tackles and always trying to play forward and looking to score as well
