This is the Official page for Washinkai Karate which was created and founded by Shihan Chris Thompson (9th Dan) in 1977.

Founded in 1977, Washinkai Karate was created by Shihan Chris Thompson (9th Dan). Washinkai is a style in its own right and is one of very few styles that has been called 'complete' by the Japan Karate Federation. The home of Washinkai Karate in the UK is the British Traditional Karate Association.

The Association held its Annual Instructors' dinner at the Hilton Hotel, Cobham, Surrey on Saturday 13 December. It has been a few years since we used the Hilton, however it was a completely new building, having just completed a £6m update.
Numbers were low this year due to instructors having other commitments. However a great atmosphere was generated by those who attended.
This year the recipient of the Graham Smith Trophy was Steve Hensman, 5th Dan, Tadworth Karate Club. Steve has been the Association's DBS man for many years, as well as teaching at his club. Many congratulations Steve!

We have booked the same venue for next year's dinner.

One of our most senior instructors, Annette Turpin 7th Dan, recently discovered that a picture of her father, Randolph Turpin, a former World Middleweight Boxing Champion, is hanging in the National Gallery, London.

The text next to the photo describes a short history of Randolph Turpin who beat Sugar Ray Robinson.
