Presidents Day!!🏏🥳🍾
What an incredible day for the club on Sunday! The Presidents XI starting in the field managed to bowl Valley End’s Chairman’s XI out for 204 in 39.2 overs. Some notable performances from Valley End batters:
Adam Forbes and Jamie Stephens put up a strong partnership in the middles overs, with Jamie just falling short of 50, being dismissed for 48 runs. Each of our bowlers picking up at least one wicket each, however Billy Crook had a great performance with figures of 3-32 off of 7 overs and his dad, Ian Crook, only bowled 8 balls and managed to take 2 wickets for no runs, with an economy of 0😯
We started off the second innings with a strong 47 run partnership between Ian Lackey and Noah Blake, Noah eventually going on to score 79 runs off of 77 balls, very good knock!👏 In at number three we had our brilliant overseas, Ben Stephen, who scored a wonderful 70* off of 70 balls. Max Roffey later came to the crease, quickly scoring 17 runs off of 10 balls, however when we needed just one run to win, he managed to get himself out (more on that later😂) and then Neil Perks came out and scored the remaining 1 run to win🙌🏻
This then saw Chobham retain the President’s Day Cup, presented to captain Ian Crook by our current president, Julian Broughton🏆
During the post match speak, Julian decided his ‘Player of the Day Performance’ was going to Ben Stephen, who not only played brilliantly on Presidents Day, but has been such a huge asset to our club in the short time he’s been here. Helping around the club with everything and also being a consistent cricketer☺️
The ‘Champagne Moment’ was awarded to Max Roffey, despite ‘doing the two easiest things badly’ (described by Julian) dropping a sitter of a catch and getting out when there was one run required. He took an outstanding catch ‘diving like superman’ and his second catch which was also very impressive🍾
The Presidents Bat has been awarded to Dom Gregory this year, for a stellar performance in the 2nd XI last season against Merrow, bowling 9 overs for 6 runs and getting 6 wickets, with 4 maidens and an economy of 0.67🤯 huge well done to Dom!!👏
