Some moments mean a little bit more.
When Sensei Alfie first started training with us many years ago, Bruce Lee was already one of his biggest inspirations. In fact, his dad and I still spend time talking about Bruce Lee, even after all these years. His philosophy, attitude and approach to martial arts continue to inspire us, just as they do millions of martial artists around the world. Even today, Bruce Lee is often the person who inspires both adults and children to take their very first steps onto the mats, and his influence is still as powerful now as it was decades ago.
So seeing Sensei Alfie standing in front of the statue, proudly wearing his Shinpo Martial Arts rash guard, is a real full-circle moment.
Bruce Lee once said:
“Absorb what is useful, discard what is useless, and add what is specifically your own.”
That quote perfectly reflects what we try to teach at Shinpo Martial Arts. Respect tradition, keep an open mind, work hard and never stop learning.
We’re incredibly proud of the martial artist, instructor and young man Alfie has become. Moments like these remind us that inspiration can stay with you for a lifetime.
Keep representing Shinpo, Sensei. 👊🥋
