On the 5 th June a Dowty Turbocraft boat called Rowdy Dowty set sail from Lake 16 at South Cerney- this was the lake where Donald Campbell trialled the boat 65 years ago.
The BBC attended the occasion and BBC Points West plan to feature the story TOMORROW ( 17th June) in their 6.30pm edition

SCSC June Exec Committee Meeting - What happened ...
Our fantastic ExCo met last night to facilitate the continued operation of our lovely Club. We welcomed Peter McK as the new book keeper, taking over from the brilliant Paul M.
Topics covered were: sale of surplus Club dinghies; repairs and improvements to the clubhouse, garages and lakeside; agreeing the way ahead on our Landlord's offer to amend our lease payment profile (phrasing this in a non-specialist manner!), agreeing a contribution to the Cadet's attendance at their World Championship and other bits of admin.
The best news is that memberships are UP on last year - a HUGE thanks you to all our members who act as ambassadors to the Club. Steve K, our illustrious Treasurer, also reported our funds are broadly satisfactory.
Some members still need to sign-up for their annual duties ..... or buy them out.
All this done in 62 minutes as we recognise that Members have limited time available for long meetings. We always welcome new , action-orientated members to our Exec Committee. It could be you?
Thanks to Jo S, our excellent Secretary who kept the show on the road/ boat on the lake.
If this prompts any questions or observations then please do get in touch with Blair at [email protected].

Did you know that South Cerney young sailors have qualified to represent UK at the Cadet World Championships this summer! ?
The Cadets are super excited for the adventure this summer and have organised a fun filled day fundraising, with delicious freshly made pizza , cocktails and mocktails and afternoon club racing.
Meet our brilliant South Cerney travelling crew heading to the World Championships. They are a fleet full of character, camaraderie and just the right amount of competitive spirit! Flying the flag in Master Mariner, Bruce & Alex bring experience, calm heads, and a quietly confident edge. Thunderstruck lives up to its name with Will & Alvy at the helm – fast, fearless and always ready to shake things up on the water. In DiMaggio, Oscar & Emily combine precision and flair, sailing with style and determination that’s impossible to miss. And in Albatross, Rosie & Isla round out the team with grit, teamwork, and boundless enthusiasm, proving that heart is just as important as speed. Together, they’re a fantastic representation of South Cerney. They are supportive, spirited, and ready to make some serious waves!
Throughout the day, there will be fresh pizza, cool drinks and our cadet sailors will be offering the following services:
Berth strimming
Boat wash

SCSC Exec Committee Meeting - 18 May 26
Our most recent ExCo meeting covered a number of points, briefly, the more interesting ones were:
Looking at Cadet berth fees.
Lining-up our new book keeper (Peter McK) who takes over from the excellent Paul M who has been a hero.
Finalising the list of club boats to be disposed of. These are the RS200, Toppers x 5, Laser Radial, 420, Gull x 2, Merlin, Wanderer. The Laser2000 is to go to the REME if they desire it.
We’ve been presented with the option of buying our ground rent revenue stream - essentially paying our rent as a front-loaded lump sum. The purchase price isn’t something we could necessarily find easily so this is being considered.
We also discussed maintaining our boundary with a regular cycle of replacing fence posts, reviewing our security technology (is there a smarter way than sensors on doors?) and sorting out our valuable Open Day details.
Please get in touch if there is anything you’d like to comment upon.

Congratulations to our own Andy Hobkirk for his award of an RYA Impact Award for the work he delivered in developing racing software for Club and Open series and races. Kudos to Rochelle too who must've played a role in Andy's success.
