We specialise in dance classes in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Drama, Acro & Singing from 2.5 years. We would like to say a big warm hello! We are Claire & Gemma and we own JA Performing Arts Clacton on Sea

We are sisters originally from Clacton who took over JA Performing Arts in 2015. Our Performing Arts and Dance school is a family orientated as it is exactly that, a family! Our Mum, Jackie, founded the dance school in 1988 – we never remember a time without the school! It is so important to us that you and your child have the most positive experience with us, from the very first enquiry through to joining our school and becoming part of our JA family. We offer specialist dance classes for Boys and Girls from the age of 2.5 years upwards in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Drama, Hip Hop/Street and Musical Theatre. We like to think we are a little more than a dance school. From our tiny tots dance classes, to getting our seniors ready for college auditions, we want to make sure students are treated with respect, dignity & nurtured into the performers they were meant to be. Quality is exceptionally important to us. Many of our former students have gone on to train at Vocational colleges such as Arts Ed, The Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama and Laine Theatre Arts to name a few. Here at JA Performing Arts, Clacton we also provide adult classes in Adult Tap, Adult Jazz and Adult Ballet, which prove to be super popular! All dance classes are held in our impressive purpose-built Studios in Clacton. If you have any questions at all, please pop us a message and Claire will happily answer any questions you may have. What will my child gain from your classes? We always ensure children have fun in a safe environment, grow in confidence and of course learn to dance! If your child has lost their confidence a little, our friendly & supportive team will help give your child their sparkle back! What classes do you hold? We specialise in providing technical training in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Drama, Acro & Singing. We have a variety of classes from pay as you go to termly classes. Classes from 2.5 years to Adults. We offer a free introductory class to all of our classes. Where are you based? We have our own purpose built Studios, in Brunel Road, Clacton. Always wanted to try Tap… but think you’ve left it too late?
You absolutely haven’t.

In fact, some of our adult dancers walked into their very first class with zero experience.

We know what might be going through your head…

“I’ll be the oldest one there.”
“Everyone else will know what they’re doing.”

But our adult beginner tap dance class is there for exactly that, beginners.

After almost 15 years away from dancing, Hannah walked back into the studio… and felt like she’d never left.

That feeling of being welcomed, included and part of something again is exactly what we want our adult classes to offer.

You don’t need to be as experienced as Hannah. You don’t need to have danced before at all. And you definitely don’t need to worry about being “too old” to start.

10 years. Two sisters. One dance school. 🥹🧡

These are the moments that really show just how much a dance school can become part of someone’s story.

From two young dancers back in 2016, to the incredible young women they are today and now Grace is passing on that same love of dance to the next generation as part of our teaching team. 🥰

For us, that’s what JA is all about.

It’s not only the classes, steps or performances. It’s growing up together, building confidence, creating friendships and memories, and sometimes… coming full circle and inspiring the dancers following behind you.

We feel incredibly lucky to have watched their journey over the last decade. 💕

They come to class to learn how to dance… but they’re learning so much more along the way. 💜

Think about what happens during a typical dance class.

Children listen carefully to instructions. They concentrate on what comes next. They remember sequences. They work alongside other children. They receive corrections. They make mistakes. And then they try again.
Sound familiar?

So many of the skills children practise in the studio can support the same habits they need in the classroom, focus, listening, memory, teamwork, confidence and resilience.

And often, they’re developing them without even realising because they’re too busy enjoying themselves.

That's one of the things we love most about dance – the lessons don't have to end when children leave the studio. 💜

This Friday’s post is a little different… and we think this photo says more than we ever could. 💜

Last night, one of our students returned to JA after taking a little time away.

And THIS was the reaction from her classmates. 🥹

No awkwardness. No feeling like the “new girl”. Just a group of very excited friends genuinely SO happy to have her back.

The teenage years can be tricky. At 12, 13, 14, finding somewhere you feel comfortable, accepted and able to completely be yourself can mean so much.

And that’s something we’re incredibly proud of at JA.

Of course we teach dance. But we’re also creating friendships, a community and a place our students know they can come back to, even if they’ve had some time away.

Because sometimes you don’t realise how much you’ve missed your dance family until you’re standing back in the studio with them. 💜

Welcome back, we think it’s safe to say everyone missed you! 🥰
