Friday wrap-up ✨

And things are looking autumnal!

My Autumn Retreat Day sold out! I’m so looking forward to hosting this cosy day in October, full of yoga, relaxation and celebrating all things autumnal 🍂🥮

This does mean that I’m now sharing about the Winter Retreat Day 🎄❄️🤭 Details are now up on my website - it’s Saturday 5 December and we have an ACE craft workshop planned for this one 🧶

We may have had the last outdoor class of the year this week, too - what a joy it’s been to have so many practices outside this summer! I’ve loved each of them and it was a lovely evening on Monday, with the sun just starting to set by the end, to bring them to a close 🌅🌰

I took relaxing to the extreme this week with a trip to the Turkish baths in Harrogate. I came out feeling (and not to sound over dramatic, but) so profoundly relaxed, I could barely walk to the train and, once on it, couldn’t even read my book. Just had to sit there and watch out of the window and try not to miss my stop. I also learnt not to take a paperback into the hot rooms - it will melt the glue on the spine and the pages do fall out after 🤭♨️📚

This evening it’s my favourite workshop - Relax & Unwind: Restorative Yoga, Yoga Nidra & Reiki - the perfect way to end Friday 🤍

It’s a working weekend as I’m covering classes on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend, but I’ve got a roast dinner and homemade apple crumble planned for Sunday 🍎😋

With the signs of autumn around us, it might have been our last outdoor class of the year last night 😢🍂 and what a joy it’s been to be able to practice pretty much every week this summer.

Feeling very grateful for having such a lovely space to practice and teach in, and very grateful for the lovely people who come to spend an hour with me each week in it too 🥰

This morning I went to a Sashiko workshop and I loved it 🪡

Sashiko is a Japanese ‘visible mending’ technique where patches of material are stitched (sashiko translates as ‘little stabs’) over one another, to mend something or make it decorative. It was interesting to learn about the history of it too - the parts of society that used it and created their own unique stitches and styles.

It was such a calming workshop and a lovely group of women - it felt like we’d all met before and it was just a regular stitching group meet-up. It’s given me so much inspiration for how I might mend and update a few pieces in my wardrobe!

Thank you Marianne Helliwell for such a sweet workshop and stocked. for putting on these lovely crafty Sunday mornings 🪡✨🍰

Friday wrap-up 🚂💻🧘‍♀️✨

It’s been a busy week of classes including a corporate yoga session in the centre of Leeds (in a very cool tech office). In amongst the bank of desks we flowed through a vinyasa practice focused on stretching out the hamstrings and lower back, as this team are also signed up to run in the Abbey Dash, as well as some stretches focused on releasing the neck, chest and shoulders. We also had the office dog join us for a bit of the class 🐶🐾 I’m excited to be adding to my corporate client list 💻🧘‍♀️ and I’m also enjoying having a commute into Leeds city centre again!

I had another day out in Leeds on Wednesday with lunch at Dishoom (delish) and a trip to the theatre. I haven’t been to see a show in ages and I had a great time!

I’ve also spent the week getting stuck into The Calamity Club ready for book club in a couple of weeks, which is making me chuckle. It follows Meg and Birdie in Mississippi in 1933, and reading about the different towns like Natchez, Jackson and Vicksburg is reminding me of when I went travelling in 2016 and got the Greyhound bus across Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee.

This weekend I’m really looking forward to a catch up with some friends over lunch tomorrow, and then trying something new at a Sashiko workshop on Sunday 🪡 (nope, I hadn’t heard of it either).

What’s been the highlight of your week?

If you get to the end of the day feeling stressed or tense, like your lower back needs a good stretch and release, or you just wish you could let go of some of the busy-ness in your brain, then yoga could help you!

I started yoga because I was struggling with back pain from working at a computer and because I was constantly taking thoughts about work home with me. I loved learning the poses and I started noticing changes in myself too. Physically, I became stronger and more flexible, and my back felt so much better. Mentally, I felt calmer, more present and more connected to myself.

This six-week beginner course will introduce you to some of the common yoga poses and how to adapt them for you, plus we’ll have a little look at some of the philosophy behind the poses (which I love).

It will be a small group with plenty of support and guidance, all at the lovely Eastthorpe Hall ✨

If you have any questions, just drop me a message, there’s also more info on my website where you can book your space 🧘‍♀️

Friday wrap up… 🥐

After the excitement of last week and my self-employed biz birthday, this week has been a little quieter. For the last few weeks my knees have started to hurt, getting to the point where it’s too painful to put weight on them. It’s called prepatellar bursitis (otherwise known as “housemaid’s knee” 👀) where the bursa sac on the front of the kneecap gets inflamed, and the main cure seems to be…rest.

I’ve tried to rest as much as possible and I’ve found it really frustrating! It’s been such a lesson in patience. Not being able to go out as much, or go to my usual reformer classes or even do my own yoga practice at home, has really confirmed how much I need them for my wellbeing. Turns out I definitely can’t practice what I preach when it comes to listening to your body and rest! Never listen to me again.

This injury has been my entire personality for the last few weeks, so apologies to everyone who has had to listen to me grumble 🙈

Some things I have done this week: embraced the start of September and looking forward to Autumn! I finished reading The Compound by Aisling Rawle this week, which really is Love Island meet Lord of the Flies, and I found quite addictive. I made a start on Autumn-film watchlist (first was up, 9-to-5 in honour of Dolly, which I loved), and I’ve also made a start on an autumnal patchwork quilt. So, I’ve been keeping busy 🪡

I’ve also been having a think about pricing options for my classes and as well as drop-ins and memberships, there are now class pass options that offer more flexibility and value. Plus the Autumn Retreat is now nearly sold out 😀🍁

Finishing Friday with a quick trip to slaithwaite to play about with some clay - excited to see what comes back from the kiln!

Guess what I’m working on today… 🍁🍂🌰

I’m getting some more inspiration and plans in place for the Autumn Retreat Day.
So far we have:
The date: 17 October ✅
The location: Eastthorpe Hall ✅
The catering: Hannah - Caterer in Leeds ✅
The itinerary: yoga and meditation in the morning ✅✅ autumn ramble in the afternoon ✅
Today I’m thinking about the wet weather plan (just in case 🤭)

If you love getting out in nature in autumn, crunching through leaves and noticing all the changes in the colours, if you like good food, and gentle yoga - I would love to invite you to join us for this cosy day 😊🍂

Also the crumpets are making me think about Bake Off! Not long now 🥰
