I’m delighted to be partnering with Rossendale Valley JFC to deliver a consistent, high-quality Saturday morning football development programme for our youngest players.

The aim is simple: help children develop their technical ability, grow in confidence and, most importantly, enjoy learning through football.

⚽ WHAT TO EXPECT

Using a Game–Practice–Game model, sessions will focus on:

🔥 1v1 ability and individual skills
🏃 Coordination, movement and physical confidence
🧠 Decision-making, creativity and game understanding
🤝 Teamwork and small-sided games

Every session will be age-appropriate, engaging and designed to help young players become confident, creative and technically capable footballers.

⚽ WHAT WILL THE SESSIONS LOOK LIKE?

My coaching approach will follow a Game – Practice – Game model, allowing players to experience the game, develop specific skills and then apply their learning in realistic football situations.

Sessions will focus on:

One year without you, Nan. 🤍🕊️

I still struggle to understand how a whole year has passed. There are days when it still doesn’t feel real, and I still find myself reaching for the phone to make our daily call, whether that was to check in, share some news or just hear your voice.

I don’t think I ever anticipated how difficult the months following your passing would be. Mentally, it was one of the hardest periods of my life, and for a while, I genuinely lost a part of myself.

But this past year has taught me a lot about grief, recovery and finding my way back. I finally feel like myself again, returning to football, management and teaching, doing the things I love.

I just hope the person I’m becoming again, and the journey I’ve taken to get here, is making you proud.

There’s so much I wish I could tell you, and I know you’d have plenty to say about it all too!

I miss you more than words can explain, and accepting you’re no longer here is still incredibly difficult.

One year without you, but a lifetime of you with me.

Why do I support Inter Milan? Why the love for Italy? 🇮🇹🖤💙

It’s a question I get asked quite often.

For me, the connection to Italy has always felt deeper than simply supporting a football club. There’s a family story behind it — and it starts with my surname.

My family surname today is Mallett, but its origin is the Italian surname Maletti (with a single “L”), a name historically found in northern Italy, particularly in Emilia-Romagna and Lombardy.

Maletti follows a traditional Italian surname structure. The suffix “-etti” is a diminutive and patronymic form used in Italian surnames, associated with ideas such as “descendants of” or “a family branch.” These forms became established as hereditary surnames during the late medieval period.

As Italian families migrated to English-speaking countries in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, surnames were often anglicised over time through everyday administration — including ship manifests, census records, school records, employment documents and civil registrations.

Spelling could gradually change as names were adapted to a new language and pronunciation.

In my family’s story, that journey is:

Maletti → Malett → Mallett

Contrary to the popular myth, immigration officials did not generally simply rename people at the border. Name changes were more commonly a gradual process, appearing across different records as families settled and adapted to their new surroundings.

So while Mallett looks English today, its story takes me back to Maletti — and to Italy. 🇮🇹

The spelling changed.

The connection didn’t.

And perhaps that goes some way to explaining why, when people ask me “Why Inter Milan?” or “Why Italy?”…

there’s a little more to the answer than just football. 🖤💙🇮🇹

These sessions are designed to provide additional high-quality coaching alongside your existing club football — you do not need to be a WALG player to attend.

Open to both outfield players and goalkeepers, with sessions focused on technical development, game understanding, confidence and individual progression.
