Since it was formed in 1972 Grindleton Recreation Ground Charity has been operating as an Unincorporated Charity, a structure which has no legal identity of its own.
In 2013 the Charity Commission introduced a new legal form for Charities, a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). Today the overwhelming majority of new charities are formed as CIOs.
The CIO structure is similar to that of a Private Limited Company, which has its own legal personality with assets and liabilities, greatly simplifying the ownership of land, buildings and other assets. The Trustees of Grindleton Recreation Ground Charity have decided it is time to adopt the CIO structure.
The new organisation will continue to have a group of trustees who will remain responsible for ensuring the charity is well run and continues to deliver against the objectives set out in the Original Governing Scheme.
The trustees will use the CIO Foundation Model, and will take the opportunity to change the name of the charity to GRINDLETON PAVILION AND RECREATION GROUND, which better describes the facilities the charity provides.
Carrying out the change to the new legal identity is not a simple process and will involve a new Constitution, Bank Accounts and Asset Transfers so will take some time to complete, hopefully by the end of 2027. There should be no impact on the day to day operation of the charity.
Should anyone have any questions about the change we are making then please talk to either John Halley, Michael Crossland, Diane Eatough or Anne Huson.
Results of the GRGC August 100 Club draw:
