Scottish Junior Team Championship, Murcar Links
-Sunday 27 September
Well our boys team travelled up to Aberdeen this weekend to defend our Scottish title, won last year at North Berwick.ππ΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώ
In strong wind and rain our boys battled the elements and returned a 5 round team total of 153 points to sit 3 points clear of the team in second place.
12 of the 21 teams had completed all 18 holes.
Alexander Watson was leading the individual section by 3 points with an unbelievable 37 points in tough conditions on a really difficult course.
Pictures taken with the trophy and the boys told to head down the round. Job done.π
So at c.3.30pm it was still an 18 hole event.
Severe weather is never easy to deal with especially with parents and junior convenors constantly in your ear.
But I have never witnessed such a chaotic administrative performance. It looks as if they were making it up as they went along.
No competent weather policy and abandonment policy was in the 7 page competition rules.
Kids were walking off the course prior to the klaxon being blown. Didn't even mark their ball- therefore disqualified.
Not a chance.
No official updates provided until
an email at 17.52pm that the competition was "abandoned ". So everyone goes home and comes back another day? Not a chance.
Next decision, conveyed by email at 19.08pm-tournament cut to 9 holesπ€·π»ββοΈ
What time was this decision made? Did they try and get a result through say 12 or 15 holes or even try and get the final groups to finish?
An absolute shambles.
Anyway I'm so proud of the 6 Drumpy Kids (Alexander & Carrick Watson, Declan Slavin, Mason Angus, Clyde Gallagher & George Maguire). As far as I'm concerned you won that event and you should all be extremely proud of yourselves and big thanks to all the mums and dads who travelled up.ππππππ
Also thanks to Paul Slavin for being team manager.π
