The University of Essex Rugby 7s

Day 2 all done and dusted here in Dubai. The boys showed a lot of heart as we have come to expect from this great group of boys, but unfortunately sometimes things just don’t go your way in this cruel sport we love and play. After a tough defeat to Honeybadgers, in which we went down fighting, we missed out on a cup quarter final on points difference, placing us in the plate competition instead. A poor first half performance gave us a mountain to climb in the final 7 minutes against Olympia in the 1/4 final in front of a large crowd, but sadly it was too little too late losing 17-15 and exiting the tournament.

As gutted as we are, we will move on from here and build again for the tournaments in the new year. Special mentions must go to Alf Holt, Kai Roper-Blackman, Sam Brown and Jordan Fenton for particularly impressive performances throughout our time here in Dubai.
