🏏 Second Team Result 🏏

A strong second XI travelled to Ipscol, bouyed by a good win last week. Once again we batted first on what looked like an excellent batting surface. Several batters got themselves in but we struggled to establish big partnerships in the face of decent bowling. Jack Axon top scored with 47, supported by Troy Collins (33 off 36), Jake Claydon (32 off 32) and Utkarsh Mittal (25 off 40) leading the green to a score of 199-8 off 40 overs. Despite this strong effort, it was perhaPS Going to be a close game.

Within a heartBEAT, and thanks to the two great opening bowlers in our ARSENAL, we had Ipscol on the back foot after only 2 overs. Wickets from Dev Agrawal (twice) and Ajula Gunasekera (once) were taken before a run had been scored! At 0-3 it looked the game might be over in quick time. To Ipscol’s credit they dug in and played some excellent cricket to keep within touching distance of the required run rate. Our great strength was another excellent and committed fielding display topped off with some terrific catches with Troy Collins, Nitja Patel and Ajula Gunasekera taking some crucial grabs. Captain Collins took a couple in the slips for good measure.

Dev Agrawal returned to the bowling attack and polished off the resistance, giving him back-to-back 4 wicket hauls (4-29 off 9 overs) and a well deserved player of the match award, and IN doing so we were CHAMPIONS by 43 runs moving us up to fourth place in the LEAGUE.

🏏 A Close Contest for the 1st XI 🏏

The 1st XI came up just short away to Colchester Cavaliers, falling to a 6-wicket defeat despite a competitive total of 176-9 from 45 overs.

There were valuable contributions with the bat from:
⭐ S. Nunn – 55
⭐ J. Purser – 48

With the ball, the Green kept battling throughout the chase:
πŸ‘ H. Warner – 2-46 (9)
πŸ‘ O. Licence – 1-22 (4)

Unfortunately, the hosts reached their target in the 35th over, but there were plenty of positives to take from the performance, with the side showing great character and determination throughout.

Thank you to everyone who travelled and supported the team. We go again next week! πŸ’šπŸ’›

2nd XI vs Maldon CC 3rd XI Result

The Eight Ash Green CC 2nd XI posted their second win of the season with a professional performance against a Maldon 3rd team πŸ’šπŸ”₯

Losing the toss EAG were put in the field in sweltering heat but adapted well to the conditions with their best bowling and fielding displays of the season. Our bowlers were led by a terrific display from Dev Agrawal with 11 overs of high quality seam and swing bowling. He fully deserved his 4 wickets for 36 runs. Jonathan Purser followed Dev’s lead with a controlled series of good length and yorker deliveries and was unlucky to only take 2 wickets off his seven overs. The skipper turned to youth and the high quality bowling continued with Finlay Barnard and Thomas Riley delivering matching figures of 5 overs for 7 runs. Skipper Collins then brought himself on and 11 balls later Maldon were all out for 110, Collins posting figures of 1.5 overs, 4 wickets for 2 runs. Ridiculous stuff.

Our bowling was outstanding but it was our fielding that really stepped up this week. Commitment from all players to chase hard and put their bodies in the way of the ball created a stifling pressure for the Maldon team who couldn’t break free. Leading from the front was our debut keeper, Glen Amos, who put in a sparking performance behind the stumps.

The EAG reply was as efficient a run chase as you will see. JP scored a brilliant 57 not out, supported by our player of the match Glen Amos (24), and the green reached the target with 3 wickets down in the 24th over.

An excellent all-round team effort πŸ‘πŸ

1st XI vs Battisford & District CC Result

A dominant performance from the 1s πŸ’šπŸ”₯

A sensational unbeaten 130* from Amila Peiris led the way with excellent support from Henry Warner (50), together totalling a massive 168 partnership.

The bowlers then wrapped things up in style, with Calum McDonald taking 4 wickets and Ross Warne claiming 3 as Battisford were bowled out for 135.

An outstanding all-round display πŸ‘πŸ
