*The Matt Murray Memorial Tournament*
On Sunday 14th September, Pegasus Table Tennis Club held a special event to celebrate the life of our friend and teammate, Matt Murray. Despite a prolonged struggle against cancer over many years for Matt and his family, Matt represented Pegasus in the league over the course of several seasons whenever his health permitted, and he enjoyed attending social table tennis sessions at Birch, which he referred to as his ‘happy place’ where he could get away from the difficult times he had to deal with on an ongoing basis.
Matt's family gathered along with his table tennis friends to enjoy an afternoon of friendly but at times fiercely competitive handicap doubles games and probably a bit too much food.
Congratulations to Steve Noble and Kevin Turner, who came up against the worthy opponents of Nick Murray and Alastair Woodcock in the final. It was a hard fought game with Kevin and Steve taking the match by a scoreline of 21-19, 14-21, 21-15.
Thanks to all those who made the day so special and for helping to raise £400 for The Teenage Cancer Trust, who supported Matt and his family through his long battle with cancer.
