Summer didn’t make you gain weight.
Doing the same things you’ve always done when your life got busier, did.
Because when your calendar fills up, your routine changes.
More meals out.
More weekends away.
More social plans.
More holidays.
Less structure.
Less time to train.
Less control over what’s happening around you.
And instead of changing how you operate throughout that period.
You decide to throw in the towel all together.
Then September arrives and you’re stood in front of the mirror thinking:
“Right. I need to sort myself out.”
and the cycle begins again.
You don’t need to change the times you know you’ve got it handled
You need to learn how to adapt when you don’t
Because there is a massive difference between:
Losing weight and gaining weight.
That’s something my clients have learnt to do.
They haven’t spent their summer hiding from restaurants or saying no to every social occasion.
They’ve had busy calendars too.
They’ve just stopped expecting the same routine to work in every season of their life.
They’ve learnt how to make different choices when they have less time.
How to navigate social plans without thinking “f**k it”.
How to maintain their habits when their usual structure disappears.
How to have more flexibility without letting everything else disappear with it.
And most importantly, they haven’t had to figure it all out themselves.
They’ve had someone there saying:
“Right, this is what your week looks like. Here’s how we’re going to approach it.”
But, I don’t want you to look at your summer weight gain and think you need to become more disciplined.
I want you to ask yourself:
“Did I actually know how to adapt when my life changed?”
Because if the answer is no, you don’t need to beat yourself up.
You need to learn a different way of doing things.
One that still works when your diary is full.
Because your life isn’t going to get permanently quieter.
And if your results only survive when your calendar is empty.
You’re going to be starting over every post ....
