# # πΎ CTC Mixed Doubles Championships 2026 πΎ
A warm, bright Friday evening saw the **Mixed Doubles Championships** return to Congresbury Tennis Club for the first time in a few years β and what a cracking evening for it! βοΈπΎ
A big thank you to everyone who played, watched and supported the event. **Six pairs** took to all three courts for the round-robin stages, with everyone playing all five of the other pairings in an attempt to secure one of those precious four semi-final spots.
One player with a fairly sizeable target on her back was **Glenda Hagger**, already crowned both **Ladies Singles AND Ladies Doubles Champion** this week. Could she make it a hat-trick? πππ
Also making a welcome return to the court was her son **William Hagger**, dusting off the racket for the first time in a while. Clearly the Hagger household hadn't seen enough tennis this week already!
A special mention must go to junior **Red OW**, who not only stepped up and entered the event but, alongside partner **Jenny Bird**, proceeded to beat the grown-ups β **twice!** ππ Those two victories were enough to secure **4th place and a spot in the semi-finals**.
Every pair managed at least one victory, showing just how competitive the group was. Unfortunately, **Jack Lintern & Louise Wariner** and **William Hagger & Carolyn D** were the two pairs to miss out on the knockout stages this time.
Carolyn may have been out of the tennis, but she was arguably winning in another department thanks to her **excellent homemade sausage rolls**, which kept everyone suitably fuelled. She then sensibly retired to **The Rec for a well-earned glass of w**e**. π·π A strong all-round performance.
Things were incredibly tight at the top, with **3rd and 4th places separated by just ONE game**.
The final standings saw **Jenny & Red qualify 4th**, **Glenda & JL Hagger take 3rd**, **Rachel Elvin & Paul Brean finish 2nd**, while **Kelliann Vennall & Jon Doel** topped the group in 1st place. π
# # # π Semi-final time...
With darkness falling, the floodlights on and clear skies overhead, the format changed to **one full set** to decide who would make the final.
**Kelliann & Jon** took on **Jenny & Red**, with Kelliann & Jon eventually booking their place in the final with a **6β2 victory**.
Meanwhile, over on Court 1, things were getting a little more... *spirited*. π
**Glenda & JL** faced **Rachel & Paul**, with some line calls being **discussed with enthusiastic passion** as the set progressed. ππΎ We're sure everyone was completely correct at all times...
With absolutely nothing separating the pairs, the set reached **6β6**, meaning a championship tie-break would decide it. By now a growing crowd had gathered to watch the drama unfold.
After such a tight set, the tie-break was surprisingly one-sided, with **Rachel & Paul storming through it 10β1** to secure their place in the final.
