You don’t have to be the most flexible, strongest, or most advanced person in the room.
What matters is whether you’re paying attention.
Can you notice when something feels right, and when it doesn’t? Can you feel when a pose needs adjusting, when you have the space to go a little further, or when your body is asking you to slow down?
That kind of awareness takes time to build.
At first, many of us are so used to pushing through that we don’t notice the smaller signals. We hold our breath.
We grip. We rush. We compare today’s practice to yesterday’s and assume that going deeper means we’re doing better.
But the body is always giving us information.
The more you practice, the more you begin to notice those details. You learn when effort is useful and when it becomes too much. You start to understand where you’re compensating, where you’re holding tension, and where a small adjustment can completely change how a pose feels.
In Forrest Yoga, that kind of listening is a big part of the practice.
The goal isn’t to perform the most impressive version of a pose. It’s to build enough awareness that you can work with your body intelligently and honestly.
Some days that means going further.
Some days it means staying exactly where you are.
And some days it means backing off completely.
Learning to recognise the difference is its own kind of skill.
The more you listen on the mat, the easier it becomes to trust yourself off it too.
