This month marks a milestone for me, it’s now been 6 years since I qualified as a Yoga teacher, one of the most fulfilling decisions I’ve ever made.

I still love teaching classes and workshops, challenging myself and my students to connect movement to breath.

Thank you to every student who came to a class and let me teach them. I appreciate you all letting me do something I love so much. Here’s to the next anniversary.

Tonight’s class is all about slowing it down and finding control. Too often we use inertia and flexibility to move between postures, but the work happens when we build muscles, strength, stamina and mobility. So instead of rushing through postures we’ll focus on using the muscles in connection with the breath and allowing the postures to arrive rather than forcing them. Join me for an intentional practise that will leave you feeling more aware and energised.

Practising at home this morning, I had the sense that I would be able to poke up into a headstand, I just knew I could do it. In the moment I felt strong and in control. Trying to replicate it was harder, and I didn’t have my balance in quite the same way, but the knowledge that I’ve done it, so I can do it again helped me find it again. A bad back and swollen stomach made core control harder than it should have been 😬🙄

It’s been a tough few months for me, with constant pain, taking me away from loving my yoga practise as much as I normally do.

When every posture feels sluggish or more difficult than it should, it’s hard to motivate myself to come to the mat, but when I do, it starts hard, slow, difficult but as I move things ease, and not every posture hurts, some give relief and others remind me what I’m capable of doing with this body.

There’s no such thing as being good at yoga, it’s what we do with our mind that helps us achieve, and tapping into resilience, hope, compassion and inner strength is more important than a pose on the mat. It’s what happens when you bring them all together.

I’m taking a break from teaching now, but classes start back 7th September, Whitley Reading Rooms, Mondays and Wednesdays 7:45pm.

It’s been a while since I posted about my practise. This year my body has been in constant pain and inflammation, making it very challenging to physically practise the way I want to most days. My ankles are constantly swollen and extremely painful, so during my practise this afternoon I thought I’d go upside down and give them a bit of relief! I suddenly thought I’d try this transition, something I haven’t tried for more than a year. Being able to do it has given me the mental post I needed while dealing with all this pain. To be able to do something challenging feels great! I need to find the strength on my body to return to a regular arm balance practise.
