Match report - O&W U15 20/09/26
Today we travelled away to Coalville, who are currently sitting at the top of the league, so we knew it was never going to be an easy game — especially with our No. 1 unavailable and only two defensive substitutes.
A massive thank you to Georgia for stepping up and going in goal! 🧤
We started strongly, playing some really fluid football, and were by far the stronger side in the first quarter. With limited rotation options, it was difficult to give the midfield the breaks they needed and ensure everyone got game time. This also meant a few players had to play in unfamiliar positions.
A special mention to Milli, who stepped into a position that isn’t her natural one. She didn’t moan once and embraced the challenge. She has shown great footwork in training, and today we felt she was our best midfield option. 👏
Unfortunately, today just wasn’t our best performance. We didn’t apply enough pressure to the loose balls and found ourselves second to everything at times. Georgia was brilliant in goal, and the goals that went in were certainly not easy ones to save.
With that said, our new parents’ player vote awarded Georgia Player of the Match. A well-deserved recognition for a true team player who stepped up when we needed her, gave it everything, and never let her head drop. ⭐
The coaches’ Player of the Match went to Freya for her second-half performance. Her pressing has really improved recently in training, and she’s also gaining confidence when running with the ball. This award is about recognising players who are putting what they’ve worked on in training into practice on match day, and Freya certainly did that today. 👏
Unfortunately, the scoreline wasn’t what we wanted, but I’m sure with a full squad and a better pitch, the result could have been very different.
Plenty to learn from today, but also plenty of positives to take forward. Keep working, keep improving, and keep believing girls! 💪⚽
