Fifty years pass by then suddenly you find a picture of yourself amongst school friends!…
Re- connecting with a schools memories. It also had its own football and rugby pitches as well as Cricket pitch. Whatever happened to History and tradition?.
Whitley Abbey School was originally opened in the 1950s, and was designed around a wonderful lake, complimented by rolling fields, woodlands and full running track. Around the year 2000 the schools governors and the city council of Coventry sold it all off, and created a tasteless modern brick obcenity of a school, despite local opposition. The entrance to the school was encapsulated by a long dr

Here’s the thing, nobody owns me or pays me for what I believe. I was reflecting the other day on when the so called ‘Whitley Academy ‘ had the wonderful if not controversial idea of inviting Mark Carney to a Q and A session in 2016. The BBC were all over it!. The cuddly Mark, and how he only carried forty quid in his pocket etc. Wonderful PR for Carney, not quite sure whom else?. So here we are all these years later. A communist leader by default, utterly and completely destroying a wonderful country that is Canada!. On reflection a bit like inviting Hi**er into your parlour to tell you how wonderful is!!. Perhaps it’s time to invite Starmer…😑

Feeling somewhat down this evening. Everything going to hell in a hand basket!. I never knew that what was the Abbey Pub and Whitley Zoo had evolved into a modern Ibis hotel. In the day I stood in the school hall and argued against the Labour council selling off our playing fields and half the school. That was bad enough. During WW2 the original Abbey was a refuge for soldiers, but that was a world war and only temporary, until they made their way home. To find out this evening, as our pensioners freeze, they are installing heat panels in the very same Hotel, in anticipation of the arrival of illegal Immigrants during a actual invasion.. This hotel at the very end of the school driveway. Police are apparently in regular attendance, so this is the Coventry we dreamt of?. We are currently under the whip of an evil government, that cares not for its people and children. How incredibly sad, what an indictment of liberal left wing politics. What a legacy from what we had!. “Theres something rotten in the state of Denmark”.

Art department in the 70's
Art at Whitley Abbey overall was great fun, unfortunately I was preceded by my talented brother Peter whom has now retired to Normandy where he dabbles in painting and sketching, last seen in Paris last week. Therefore there was an expectation of the Art department that I to would shine, especially with my B at O Level, so I dived in ignorantly into the A level accordingly. To this day I believe I was the first pupil to fail A level Art in the history of the school!. It was totally diffrent to O Level. Mister Brown dominated the department, a likeable old school type with a penchant for wearing Ushanka's in the winter and once offered my mother a cigar!. He was very patient with me. The hipsters were Dave Kennigale and Andy Said, real cool cats, Dave was a cousin of Chris Tarrent so ATV Today visited the school to do a news item on fishing in the school lake, which I believe Dave organised. I have fond memories of Dave, ranging from him crashing arount the Art room wihile suffering a bad virus, and him playing cheesy romantic european holiday music following his return from Summer holiday. Andy Said, was simply incredibly laid back!, a guitar playing maltese gentlemen; a real hepcat, they both had style. There was also a Miss Tintin, whom went into apoplexy every time she taught me, she found it hard to cope with my laissez-faire attitude to life and the universe, and would often complain to Mr Brown about me, simply because he told me!. Great people, innocent times in some ways.

Some more wonderful pictures, I am sure the ruined chapel was situated at the rear of the lake? I believe the Xmas tree was for the sixth form common room in the late sixties.😊
