A remarkable first season back from the rugby wilderness culminated in a fairy tale ending for Worcester Warriors yesterday, as a controlled, composed display saw the visitors secure the CHAMP Rugby trophy with a 14-27 victory over Bedford Blues

What an incredible come back season for Worcester Warriors!

Blood, mud (Nottingham Rugby!), sweat and occasional tears have culminated in the opportunity to take on Bedford Blues in the CHAMP Rugby play-off final tomorrow.

Having photographed that emotional final PREM Rugby match against Newcastle Red Bulls in September 2022, it’s been a privilege to create a visual record of this historic campaign.

Saddened to see that former Worcester Warriors back Meg Varley of Bristol Bears Rugby has been forced to retire, following a succession of injuries during her time at Ashton Gate.

Impressive both on and off the pitch, hopefully, we’ll see Meg in a coaching role very soon!

In the 3rd match in a trilogy of epic contests this season between 2 sides that are developing a very real rivalry and deep mutual respect, Ealing Trailfinders Rugby Club scored in the 79th minute to take a 29-27 lead on a sweltering day in the capital.

With only 10 seconds on the clock Worcester Warriors’ Will Reed kicked the restart, which was palmed back by Louis Brown to Will Lane - who fizzed out a pass to Siva Naulago. Siva found Jake Garside on the wing, who finished with clinical precision - sparking incredible scenes among Warriors’ players and supporters.

Will Reed added the extra points to give Worcester a 29-34 victory, and set up a mouth-watering CHAMP Rugby play-off final against Bedford Blues at Goldington Road next Sunday.

One further CHAMP Rugby outing for Coventry Rugby Club proved out of reach as, following a first half in which they and Bedford Blues were only separated by a single point, the hosts took full control of the match after the break - to earn a place in next week’s final against the winner of today’s 2nd semi-final between Ealing Trailfinders Rugby Club and Worcester Warriors.

In a tense, tight CHAMP Rugby play-off quarter final at Sixways Stadium, Worcester Warriors’ strong 2nd half performance ensured a 35-29 victory over Chinnor RFC Thame - setting up a mouth-watering semi-final at undefeated Ealing Trailfinders Rugby Club next Saturday.
