Important Step Forward

We welcome the Prime Minister’s commitment that the Government will do “whatever we can” to prevent drownings - a powerful statement made during .

This follows growing cross-party recognition in last week’s Westminster Hall debate that drowning prevention and water safety are falling through the cracks and require urgent Government action.

It also comes after the launch, at the APPG for Water Safety Education, of our ‘Child Drownings in England: An Overlooked Public Health Issue’ report and our campaign outside Parliament, highlighting that nearly every drowning is preventable.

This is a pivotal moment. We now await the Government’s response to our call for an urgent roundtable with water safety experts to turn commitment into action - before the summer holidays, when risk is highest.
