Hello people of Coventry. So it's been a busy couple of weeks here at Jaguar Bowls Club Coventry with a couple of away friendly games to navigate. But this week, my I have to say it's good to be back home. So this past Tuesday the Men had their first Monday Night League game, a Knockout Cup match against our friends from Stoke Phoenix, close game but alas we couldn't quite get the result we were hoping for, but well done all for perseverance and determined play in quite chilly weather. One of our members is also in National action today playing in the prestigious Champion of Champions, Chris Buchanan, we are so very proud of you. While Chris is off representing the Jag in the Champion of Champion game, the rest of us played a friendly against more of our friends from another club, Corley. Again another close game played in tremendous spirit, and the weather was really good too. The green was amazing to play on, even if my game was a bit off πππ. So thanks go to the crew led by Martin Roberts who do an amazing job every week to keep us playing on a great surface. Also thanks go to Chris Smitten and John Wale for selecting teams. Thanks also go to Emma Pensomsmih for the amazing photos that really do show our fantastic sport and awesome people in a great way. And to all the ladies that do the food every home game, you all do amazing work so a massive thank you to you all. This week lots going on with more games on Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday away to Corley. Also work continues to make our green and surrounds the best we can and I think the team do a grand job.
If these photos wet your appetite for more information or even to give our grand sport a go, drop a comment and more info will be provided. I'm biased, (a little bowls joke πππ) but I truly believe that this is the best sport in the world. Easy to play, and the social side is second to none.
Hope to hear from some of you soon

Good evening, so it's official, the 2026 season is well under way and we here at Jaguar Bowls Club Coventry are very excited as to what this season brings. As you can see from the pictures we had an awesome turnout for our first "fixture", a game amongst ourselves. Before the game we held a minutes silence for our dear friend and fellow bowler Jo Vitols who sadly passed away. I'm really proud of this fine club for honouring Jo the way we did, and I'm sure that she would of loved yesterday.
As I said at the start we are well and truly under way now with fixtures coming quick before the month is through, club friendlies against Sphinx and our memorial day coming up. The ladies start their Wednesday fixtures a week on Wednesday. Then with May the Men start their Wednesday league games and the Monday Night league along side our regular Saturday friendlies and Club Competitions so lots to keep us going for a while πππ.
If this sounds like something you would like to have a go at, we really would like to hear from you. Drop a comment and I will get back to you. Or message DFrancis Pensom directly, he is our Saturday captain and he will be more than happy to give more info.
We here at Jaguar Bowls Club wish you all an amazing summer, and we hope to hear from some of you too.
Take care and keep rolling.

Good afternoon folks, so with April now here, lots has been done at Jaguar Bowls Club Coventry, ready for our first game tomorrow. The green has been verticut, cut and treated, still a bit of moss on the green but it's getting less everyday. Bowls really well, so the ground staff have really outdone themselves. Our VIB area is ready to receive weary workers and bowlers alike, chippings all around to make it look tidy, and I think you will agree, it looks great. Our sticks have a new home as you can see. All in all the crew have done amazing as always, and I for one cannot wait to get the season started.
We are always looking for new members to join our lovely club, it really does not matter about your age, background or ability. All are welcome to join, so whether you have a sporting history and would like to try a more sedate sport, or you have never played a sport in your life. Young or slightly more advanced in age it really does not matter. Our membership price is still very competitive, and our bar is always stocked up on game days πππ.
I can promise one thing, there is never a dull game of bowls, the stories and laughs we have is, I guarantee, the best thing about playing bowls.
If you are interested in more info, or you are wanting to give bowls a go, drop a comment and I will get back to you.
Jaguar Bowls Club wish everyone an awesome summer, whatever you are doing

Well it's been a lovely week of weather here at Jaguar Bowls Club Coventry which of course means that plenty of green work has gone on. We open in 2 weeks time and that means we are in full swing to get ready, so the grass has been cut, spiked, sorrell spiked, seeded, light top dressing, and fertilizer, seaweed treatments applied all watered in. Let me tell you, that green gets better treatments than I do πππ. Also well done Martin Roberts on finding an ingenious way of doing the edges, I have to say the brilliance of the man knows no bounds.
And a mega thanks to all that helps out at The Jag, stars one and all.
So yeah, winter has officially been put to bed and now we can really look forward to the season.
If you are interested in having a go at our fine sport, please just drop a message and I will get in touch to talk you through it.
Take care, and keep rolling

Good evening, well after a very, very wet winter isn't it great to have a sunny warm day at long last. We at the Jaguar have been waiting, and now with a month to opening it seems we have a warm light at the end of the tunnel. But the wet weather hasn't stopped our green keepers and crew from putting in a few shifts, when the weather allowed of course. The green looks stunning in the early spring sunshine, but it's the laurel cutting that we are particularly proud of. It's a job that took a few mornings to get through, and we still have one full side to take care of, but I think you will agree the team have done a fantastic job, led by the legend that is Martin Roberts it is looking really smart, so well done all. As I say we open in a month and there will be more games this year due to us joining the Monday Night League which we are very excited about. Along side our regular Saturday friendlies, the Wednesday league for over 55s, 2 women's leagues to play on a Wednesday and friday, oh and not forgetting the club competitions there is plenty of games, with I guarantee plenty of laughs and drinks too.
So if you are reading this and think you would like a go, or just a bit more info, drop a comment and I will get back to you.
I'm biased, but it's the greatest social activity in the world and anyone can play, I promise.
Til the next time

Good afternoon all, well it seems to be getting warmer and the nights getting longer, so it must be coming up to the outdoor season very soon. A lot has been going on, plenty of maintenance over the winter to keep some of us busy, when the weather has allowed. Did many of you watch the winter Olympics, didn't GB do well. The curlingπ₯ was a big talking point for many of us, did you know that curling is basically lawn bowls on ice. True, it says so in the curling handbook. So if like many of the nation watching the π₯curling, thinking I would love to try that, if only it wasn't so cold and on ice, then lawn bowls might be for you. We also play indoor short mat during the winter too. If you would like to try then we here at the Jaguar Bowls Club would love to meet you. If you want more info, then that's fine just drop a comment and I will be more than happy to help.
Keep on rolling

Hello friends,
So here we are then, we have made it thru 2025 here at the Jaguar Bowls Club Coventry. Tomorrow we hold our final home friendly of the season against 3 spires bowls club, followed on Sunday by the Annual Jim Haley trophy game between Jag members, weather permitting of course. This past Sunday was our finals day, and I have to say that every single player, marker and supporter on the day enjoyed the festivities, so you are all winners in my book. A special thanks goes to Emma who took the amazing photos of the day, a culmination of hard work by players to make ties happen on time, markers were as always superb in giving their time to mark said games and of course the supporters who came to watch some very high quality matches. Rich Kilgour, our esteemed competition secretary has once again done an amazing job of putting these comps together. To Martin Roberts, Daz DFrancis Pensom, and everyone that has worked on the green and surrounding areas, what can I say?! Without you guys doing what you do, we don't play at home. It's that simple. We as a country have just endured one of the hottest, driest summers ever experienced, and I know greenkeepers up and down the country have been suffering, but you guys really do go above and beyond to make sure we have what I truly believe to be one of the best greens in the city. So from everyone at the club, THANK YOU GREENKEEPERS.
To everyone else, I also want to say a massive thank you, whether you are the Chairperson, Bar assistant, fixture secretary, whether you do a little bit, or you play every single game. Whether you play for the Jag or you have visited as an opposing club, Thank You All. Each and every one of you is what makes this sport great.
2025 has been awesome, already I'm looking forward to what the 2026 season is gonna roll on us.
REMEMBER, if you want to know what this fantastic sport is about, drop a comment and someone will tell you it's not only great fun, but it's great for your health, both physical and mental health. I guarantee it is the best support group you will ever find.
Til the next time
Keep on rolling

Hello friends,
Wow, what a season we have had here at the Jaguar Bowls Club Coventry, everything from the warmest, driest summer summer I've experienced, 4 heatwaves I think. To some very high quality competition matches, not only club comps but county and district too, all being played on what I truly believe to be one of the best running greens in the city, I am very biased being one of the greenkeepers along with Martin Roberts lol, and we have done some amazing work this year too, keeping the green going on some really difficult days too. In between we had 2 of our ladies at sports fest in the city centre being helped by a very warm looking Rich Kilgour, so well done to Jenny Harris and Chris Buchanan for putting up with a very warm day just to get our good name out there. The last pictures you'll see are the results of a cut this morning in preparation for 4 days of very important bowling. Tonight at 4.30pm we hold the final of the Ladies League Knockout Cup, we are very privileged to be able to hold these events on our green again, so well done all that are involved in bringing these prestigious events to the Jag. Tomorrow we hold a first friendly against Sweetpea Bowls Club. Then on Sunday it's our Finals Day, the culmination of a lot of hours playing some very high quality ties as I said earlier, and I'm going to take this opportunity to thank our esteemed competition secretary Rich Kilgour for making some fantastic competitions, and we have said many times this season, the competitors this year have really put on some shows on the green, really proud of each and every one of you that have taken part, and with that said good luck to all competing on Sunday and Monday, no matter the result, in my mind each of you are champions already.
And with the season coming to an end, doesn't mean we stop completely, we will soon be holding shortmat thru the off season so it's never too late to pop down and see what the fuss is about.
We welcome all, whether you've never heard of bowls or you are looking to get back into a sport. If you would like more info on us or the sport, drop a comment and let's talk bowls.
Next update should be Monday evening after the festivities of the weekend have subsided.
Take care and keep on rolling.

This past Sunday we at the Jaguar Bowls Club Coventry held our very successful annual Ladies Gala. As you can see from the amazing pictures it was a very warm day, but every one coped very well. The green held up well with all 6 rinks in use by 12 wonderful teams. The awesome volunteers did their duties with great attitude and warmth. Loads of raffle prizes were won, the cakes went down a treat too. Congrats go to all who bowled, 28 ends in total, as I say on a very warm day cannot of been easy. Well done to every single volunteer who gave their time to making the day run smoothly.
So all in all, a wonderful way to spend a Sunday summer afternoon.
In other news, we have members in two Cov and District competitions this week. Tomorrow we have 2 sets of triples playing in the Silvera Shield, one at the Jag and one away playing Stoke Bowls Club. So Good Luck Lads on that. And this Thursday, we are at home in the Semi Final of The Pat Fulham Cup, with a chance of making the final, we again wish all involved The Very Best Of Luck.
And if you like the look of what we do here at The Jaguar Bowls Club, we are always looking for new members. So if you would like more info, drop a comment and someone will be more than happy to have a chat.
That's all from me for now

Afternoon, this past Saturday we played a friendly against stoke bowls club here at jaguar. It was a lovely afternoons bowling, and even though the result didnt go our way, all 6 rinks were in use and good banter and laughter all around. The green bowled beautifully, as I knew it would being greenkeeper in training lol, and the comments saying as much were just wonderful
See you all soon
