Weekend round up!
Men’s 1 hosted Stockport on Saturday and came away with a 3-0 win moving them up to 2nd in the league with one game today.
Men’s 2 had their final triangular of the season and firstly beat Tamworth 3-1 before facing Birmingham City. It was a tight game with the teams trading points throughout as it went to a lengthy four setter before Birmingham closed it out 3-1. The lads currently sitting 5th in the league.
The ladies 1 team were away in Tamworth in an even tighter game. With both teams fighting for the points it went the distance but at 15-12 in the fifth Tamworth took the win.
All to play for as we got into the final 2 weeks of this NVL season ahead of Easter.

MEGA result round up! Lots of Riga teams in action recently!
Yesterday at home women’s 1 got a 3-0 win v Cardiff doubling down on their previous victory against them, before Men’s 1 went down 3-0 to a strong Rhinos side 🦏
Women’s 2 were on the road in Cambridge where they first faced top of Division MK City - and while they stole a set couldn’t finish out the game. They then played Rhinos - it was sure to be a close encounter after a five setter ending in Rhinos favour a few weeks ago. In an intense battle the score was squared 2-2 when hall time ran out and badminton descended! A great battle though from both teams - thanks 🦏
Last weekend women’s 1 lost 3-0 in the shield quarter finals to local side Tamworth. We’ll be cheering them on for the shield win 💪💪
And our WMVA team put up one massive fight against strong side Birmingham Dragons. The game went the distance with Dragons coming out on top 3-2. 🐉
So much volleyball in 2 weekends! And it continues with all NVL teams, our WMVA U18 ladies and our U16 girls all in action again over the next week 😅

MATCH RESULT 🏐
Riga had a double header against local team Tamworth Spartans yesterday. First up the ladies had a five set thriller which could have gone either way with Tamworth just taking it in the fifth.
The men then got the job done in four taking the match 3-1.
Thanks Tamworth for two great games - and Merry Christmas! 🎅 🎄🏐

RIGA make it 4 out of 4 this weekend in the NVL! 👏👏
First up our women’s 1st team travelled to Cardiff. After some locational challenges the women didn’t look back though securing a 3-0 win! 🏐
Our women’s second team were away for their triangular too. First up they faced Nottingham Rockets and the ladies put up a strong performance to take the match 3-1. Next up was Darkstar Derbyshire. It was neck and neck and with Riga just ahead (1 set all and 16-15 up) when cricket stopped play as Darkstar hadn’t booked sufficient hall time ⏰
Today the men’s first team travelled to Cambridge to play Rhinos. Under the watchful eye of new coach Alex the team powered to a 3-1 victory. 🔥
A good weekend of volleyball! ♥️

BUMPER RESULTS - a weekend with lots of Riga volleyball!
Women’s 1 kicked off v Oxford Eagles getting a set before the Eagles soared.
Mens 1 then took on Sheffield and clinched a 3-1 win 😎
Then on Sunday men’s 2 were in Telford where the first game couldn’t be tighter as a five set thriller ensued but Telford game out on top (this time 😉) and then Chelmsford took the second 3-0.
Ladies 2 were at home and stormed the first set against Loughborough who then fought back well to take it 3-1. Next up were Cheltenham and Gloucester who took their momentum from the win v Loughborough to take it 3-0.

Our WMVA U18 boys team travelled to Wombourne today for their first league fixture of the season.

After a rocky start the boys regrouped and put out some great displays of volleyball against a strong and well disciplined Wombourne side.
It was a neck and neck game throughout but none more than the third set, with Riga needing a win to stay in the game the teams hit 25-25. This young Riga team held their heads though and with team spirit and determination kept siding out to take the set 30-28 (much to our travelling fans delight!).

The fourth was equally close but Wombourne just took it 27-25.

Thanks for a great game
