WightTricks Academy

WightTricks Academy Tricking & acrobatics gym with the island’s only spring floor. Learn flips, twists & kicks. Tricking is a very new and exciting sport.

WTX is the first and only Urban Sports facility on the Isle of Wight, teaching Free running, acrobatics and tricking, a combination of gymnastics and martial arts movements. Our academy, based in Cowes currently has over 150 active memberships. Our club offers a range of price options for different levels of interest, but with greater emphasis on group classes. We teach our students not only how to do flips, kicks and twists, but also about how to condition their bodies and look after themselves in a fun and engaging way, providing nutritional guidance as well as setting the scene to build good lifestyle habits. At WightTricks we like to encourage physical activity, fitness and general well-being in young people on the island, especially for those that have never been interested in engaging in a ‘traditional’ sport, such as football or Rugby. We offer an exciting alternative sport, focusing on coaching others to use acrobatic maneuvers as a physical outlet. Not only because it’s main purpose is to be aesthetically pleasing rather than regimented and structured with standard grading boundaries, but because it has a great community which encourages growth and development in a positive way. We recognise that just as every trick is different, so is every student. We teach in a way that means no-one feels like they won’t ever be able to achieve what their teacher is showing them. Every individual is unique and due to this, we don't follow a normal structure if it means it doesn't suit that student. At WightTricks, we work hard to match techniques to each student's strengths. We offer coaching in a positive, encouraging way and allow our students to have a go and get a feel for what each move feels like and how their bodies react to it. Our club owns a huge 16 x 10 m gymnastics spring floor and is one of a kind on the Isle Of Wight. The floor reduces impact on landing and allows the student to increase the amount of repetitions of a skill in one session, this creates great habits faster and improves technique, whilst boosting confidence due to the soft landing. We also own a 6 x 6 metre airfloor manufactured by the world's best Airtrack manufacturer - the Airtrack Factory. The world's most skilled acrobats, gymnasts, free runners and stuntmen have used this floor for training because of it’s high quality. The Airtrick floor is the ultimate piece of kit for all acrobatic needs, and is the highest quality equipment currently available on the island for it's purpose, making our club perfect for any acrobatics enthusiast.

Killer swing chain from Josh. 🔥

One of the things I love about swing transitions is just how small the margin for error becomes. Every landing has to arrive in the right position, direction and timing to immediately create the next take-off - there’s very little room to reset or save it once the chain gets moving.

It’s also something I’ve always loved aesthetically about tricking. When the difficulty, ex*****on and flow all come together, a good swing chain almost looks effortless despite how technically demanding it actually is. You are killing it Josh. ❤️‍🔥🤙

Spotlight Moments #5 - Sam ❤️‍🔥

At just 11 years old, Sam brought a Triple Full into his competition pass-and this was perhaps only the fifth one he had ever landed!

He didn’t just get it around either. Look at the height, the shape and how clean that landing was. Taking such a difficult, skill into competition requires huge confidence, strength and courage, and Sam absolutely delivered when it mattered.

Incredible work from such a talented and powerful young student here at WTX. We’re so proud of you and can’t wait to see where this his year takes you! 😌❤️‍🔥

Spotlight Moments #4 - Zion ❤️‍🔥

Zion’s Aerial to Full Split Landing finisher was an incredible way to end his pass. It’s a difficult skill that demands both precision and control, and he made it look so composed under pressure.

What impressed me just as much, though, was the fluency throughout his combo. That’s something he’s worked hard on, and it’s amazing to see every little part we’ve been building towards come together at FTIG.

A real light up moment for me. Keep going, Zion. ❤️‍🔥

Spotlight Moments #3 - Seinna ❤️‍🔥

Seinna had been working incredibly hard on her Cartwheel Hyper Full for a long time. We knew the skill was there but was inconsistent, but choosing to combo out of it took real commitment. It meant pushing past her comfort zone and trusting the work she’d put in.

Then she did exactly that, linking it into a beautiful Gainer Flash. Seeing her technical ability shine under pressure was a real light-up moment for me.

And the Back Handspring Full at the end was the perfect cherry on top.

You’ve worked so hard for this, Seinna. Incredible showcase.❤️‍🔥

Spotlight Moments #2 - Rhys ❤️‍🔥

Rhys had been working towards this Double Full on floor for a long time. It had shown flashes in training, but it was still inconsistent enough that I genuinely wasn’t expecting him to throw it in the middle of a competition.

Then he did. 😅

What impressed me most wasn’t just the landing, it was how effortless he made it look & how he stayed completely composed afters, focusing on the next immediate task.

That was a real light-up moment for me. Sometimes an athlete makes a bigger jump than you realise, and you only see it when the pressure is on. You delivered an incredible performance. 🙌🙏

You’ve come a long way Rhys. ❤️‍🔥

Spotlight Raw Moments #1 - Bella ❤️‍🔥

Bella put in the work leading up to this event, but I still wasn’t prepared for the level she delivered on the day. Her training told me she could, but her passes incorporated some risk, you really pushed past your limits 😌

Finishing her pass with a Hyper Cork and swinging her raiz into a Gainer in a combo was one of those moments that genuinely made me stop and smile. 🙏

You have come such a long way, Bella. What an absolute hero. So proud of you. ❤️‍🔥

This is going to be a mini series, showcasing incredible moments from the community that day.

WightTricks Volunteer Coaching Development Opportunity

At WightTricks, we believe great coaches are developed through experience, guidance and a genuine desire to make a difference.

We are looking for an enthusiastic parent from within our community who would be interested in supporting selected classes while learning more about coaching and becoming more involved in what we do.

This would be a voluntary development opportunity, working alongside our existing coaching team. You would have the chance to observe experienced coaches, support suitable activities, assist with equipment and gradually build a deeper understanding of how we structure, manage and deliver our sessions.

Throughout the opportunity, you would receive training, guidance and honest feedback to help develop your confidence, knowledge and coaching ability.

There would be no minimum-hours commitment. Sessions would be arranged around your availability, with no obligation to accept every opportunity offered.

This is not currently a paid position and does not guarantee future employment. However, for the right person, it could provide a genuine pathway towards a paid coaching role should a suitable opportunity become available in the future.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, dependable, confident around children and genuinely passionate about learning, developing and contributing positively to the WightTricks community.

Coaching is about far more than teaching skills. It is about setting standards, building confidence and helping shape the next generation. We are looking for someone who understands the importance of that responsibility and is excited by the opportunity to grow into it.
