Lock In

The summer may have disrupted your routine and perhaps you’ve gone off track with your health & fitness goals.

But next week it’s September, a great time to reset and dial in on your goals again!!

Kick it off with a week trial to see how we can help. (Week trial link in our highlights in bio)

When running a gym, you’re always thinking of what can be improved and how can we provide more value. It makes sense since It’s that same growth mindset that we expect from our members on their fitness journey.

But sometimes rather than always looking forward and thinking what’s next it’s good to look back and see the progress that’s been made along the way and allow yourself to be proud of it.

So for anyone that’s made a decision to improve their strength, health, fitness or performance, be proud of what you’ve achieved so far. We’re proud of the progression we’ve made.

How we program our group strength sessions at Focus Hybrid…

Always Full Body - doesn’t matter if you miss some sessions during the week you’ll still train every muscle in the 1 session you do get to. For those that make all 3 strength sessions they hit each muscle and movement pattern 3 times (optimal for strength is 2-4 per week)

Fundamental Movements - we always have some variation of squat, hinge, push, pull and core in every session. These variations can be changed to suit the individual.

Movements not muscles - we’re not only trying to strength and build muscle, we’re trying to improve mobility and range of movement. (We have an option for more isolation work)

Choose your own finisher - members can choose Build or Metcon at the end of each session depending on which is more aligned with their goals. Build is more isolation work for arms, shoulders and sometimes calves and glutes. Metcon is some high intensity conditioning for those who want to touch on Hyrox, Tryka or ATHX movements or just don’t get longer conditioning pieces fitted into their weekly schedule.

Always ready to improvise and adapt - While we have a program prescribed it can be changed infinitely to suit the individual in front of us to meet them where they’re at. That could be dealing with injuries, restrictions or just their current training level.

We program with longevity in mind. It would be easy to get members to “go to the well” every session and rely on those big dopamine hits to motivate people. (These sessions happen now and again but are not the norm for us)

But your body adapts to what it can recover from. Most of our training is well structured strength work. Rarely do we push to failure, usually we aim around RPE7-8.

Proximity to failure is a requirement for building muscle but 5 reps in the tank can still be considered close to failure.

The same applies to our conditioning work. Paces are usually prescribed for controlled work and not just intensity for the sake of intensity. Recoverable and Repeatable volume and intensity.

We prefer to play the long game. Program so that members aren’t shattered from the training, and their bodies can actually absorb and adapt to the stimulus. Short term it may not feel as effective because they aren’t leaving the gym exhausted and that has gone against us in the past. People chasing a sweat or a burn because they’ve been taught that equates to results.

But our aim is better not harder. When people can keep coming back and stack those sessions up over years the result is fitter, stronger, and a training system they can stick with.
