Getting harder every week to pick, but it went to Liam this week. Super tackling all game from defence, worked his socks off, and now he’s getting goals, with three well-taken goals this week 💪👏

⚪️🔴 ⭐️2014 Stars⭐️ 🔴⚪️

On Saturday morning, the 2014 Stars began their Mid Ulster League campaign at the fantastic St Patrick’s College in Banbridge, taking on a strong Armagh City side in their IFA 9-a-side league opener.

After an excellent pre-season, the Stars were eager to hit the ground running — and from the very first whistle, they did exactly that.

Sunnyside started brightly and produced some scintillating football, using the width of the pitch brilliantly. Riagan and James were causing constant problems out wide, creating chance after chance, with only the offside flag preventing the Stars from turning their early dominance into goals.

In midfield, Sheelin and Eóghan were setting the tone, working tirelessly and winning their battles.

The breakthrough finally arrived when Eóghan won possession and found Riagan, who threaded a lovely ball down the line for new signing Enda. He raced onto it, turned his defender and thumped his finish home at the near post.

⚽️ 1–0 Sunnyside!

Armagh responded with their first real opportunity, a long ball over the top releasing the striker to level the game at 1–1.

It proved to be a wake-up call for the Stars, who immediately turned the screw again. The football on display was a joy to watch — quick one-touch passing, movement and chances being created all over the pitch. James came agonisingly close when his effort struck the post and went wide.

The pressure eventually told.

Nojus threaded the ball through the middle to Riagan, who produced a moment of magic. His turn left the defender behind before he unleashed an unbelievable strike from range that dipped and swerved beyond the goalkeeper.

🚀 What. A. Goal.

Sunnyside went into half-time with a deserved 2–1 lead.

The second half began in much the same fashion, with the Stars on the front foot and Armagh working hard to keep them out.

Sunnyside felt they should have had a penalty when a foul appeared to take place inside the area, only for a free kick to be awarded instead. The boys didn’t allow the decision to distract them and soon grabbed the third goal their performance deserved.

Joe’s effort was brilliantly saved, but the ball looped into the air and Enda reacted quickest, heading home for his second of the morning.

⚽️ 3–1!

From there, however, the game took a frustrating turn.

Armagh pulled one back following a free kick into the area. Jacob appeared to have both hands on the ball before contact from the forward forced it loose, but play was allowed to continue and Armagh converted to make it 3–2.

The visitors then found an equaliser from another ball over the top. Despite Sunnyside’s appeals for offside, play continued and, following a ricochet inside the area, the ball fell kindly for the Armagh striker to make it 3–3.

Still the Stars refused to settle.

They pushed hard for a winner and felt they had another strong penalty claim when Joe burst into the box, dragged the ball back and went down under a challenge from behind, but again the decision went against them.

Somehow, after an action-packed game, it finished 3–3.

There was understandably some frustration at the final whistle after creating so many opportunities and leading 3–1, but the overriding feeling should be one of huge encouragement.

Against a strong Armagh City side, the Stars produced an excellent performance full of quality football, hard work and attacking intent. If this is the standard the boys are setting in their first game, there is plenty to look forward to in what promises to be a very competitive league.

These are exactly the games that will challenge the boys, enhance their development and make them stronger as the season progresses.

🏆 Nantuckets Man of the Match: Enda — what a competitive debut! Two well-taken goals, led the line brilliantly and showed exactly why we were delighted to bring him into the squad. 👏⚽️

🙏 A massive thank you to all of our sponsors for their continued support as we begin another exciting season. Your backing of the 2014 Stars is greatly appreciated.

⚪️🔴 2016 Dynamos 🔴⚪️

Dynamos got a chance to show their true skill yesterday in perfect conditions, and boy did they deliver!!! 👏🔥

First half, the boys found themselves behind early on but gradually grew into the game. The crossbar stopped James from pulling a goal back from long range on the half-volley. Hillsborough keeper got down well to save Eoghan’s penalty after a handball from a corner.

The breakthrough eventually came from midfield – Eoghan completing a Cruyff turn and striking a long-range rocket past the keeper (we had worked on Cruyff turns at training on Thursday, would you believe! 🚀).

Into the second half and, with the first attack into the right channel, James timed his run well and took a first-time shot hard and low into the bottom right corner – no keeper saving that! ⚽️

Dead-ball specialist Eoghan took a corner which fell to James on the penalty spot to slot home. ⚽️

Hillsborough were a really good side who had been playing up a year last year, and they continued to make it a competitive game. The boys dug in and Eoghan had another direct free kick which took a slight nick off a defender’s head but was going in regardless 🚀 to complete another brilliant attacking move.

Every child was brilliant today. Special mention to Alex and Fionn – they won every duel and read the game perfectly. 👏 High praise from both sets of parents, coaches and even the referee. Very proud coaches today. ❤️🤍

Well done, Dynamos! What a performance! 👏🔥

⚪️🔴 2018 Dynamos 🔴⚪️

The 2018 Dynamos started off their first Lisburn League campaign on Saturday morning with a bang.

3 matches were played at Laurelhill 3G and the lads got stuck in right from the start with some excellent football on display.

The movement, the passing, the shooting and the goalkeeping, everything was top notch on the day.

19 goals scored over 3 matches shared amongst the whole team, very proud coach today and really impressed by them all 💪🏻.

Our squad for the day was. Aodhán, Jack, Ruairí, Fionn, Louis and Charlie.

A special mention to Louis who played all 3 matches in nets and was outstanding.

Our player of the day was Jack who played out of his skin all day.

Well done boys ⚪️🔴

⚪🔴 2012 Stars 🔴⚪️

Stars continue their good start to league with another win.

It was a slow start to the game for both teams but once the lads found their grove and got going the goals soon came. Jude opened the scoring getting on the end of Ryan's long goal kick. He then doubled his tally after picking up a cross from Aodhan. Jae then turned provider for Aodhan to give the boys a solid lead. Ryan then made a big save to keep the the opponents out.
A lapse in concentration did allow the opposition to get a goal back but the boys finished the half strong with Finn clipping a ball to the wing for Jude to cross to Aodhan to head home.

Once again we made a slow start to the half and allowed the opponents to get another goal back. After that the boys locked in and the defence of Eóghan, Kevin, Ryan, Shea, Aaron & goalie Ryan upped their game to keep the opposition out for the remainder. A few changes were made to introduce Harry, Daire, Noah and Louis to the game. We started to take control again and it was Louis who powered through the middle to score his first of the day. Daire then once again made himself a nuisance to win the ball before Noah put Louis through again for his second. Ezra then had a chance to increase the lead but couldn't keep his shot down. Jude then produced a great run through the field and drove home for his hat trick. Not to be outdone Louis powered home his third shortly after before adding a fourth to finish the scoring.

Once again you'd think with the goals scored the POTM would be an easy choice for an attacker but it was goalkeeper Ryan McAleenan that took home the award. He was brilliant off his line today to sweep behind the backline and made a few brilliant points blank saves at crucial times while also bagging an assist.
