Crail Bowling Club

In our 100th year of playing on the 'new' green, and Penman butcher's 100th year in business, Crail Festival also celebrated an anniversary of 40 years. We were chosen as a venue for a Crail Festival event, and had a great turnout for their bowls fun day - and the sun shone 🙂. Everyone enjoyed trying bowls.

We also had the annual Paul Pairs competition. Gerald and Sheena were delighted to win on the last bowl of the very last end - beating worthy runners up, Ian Laird and Caroline.

Our Open Pairs competition had 16 teams from various parts of Scotland competing to win the prize(s).

The winners, for the second year in a row, were our own members Stan Frankland and Ken Macleod.

Second prize went to Ian Morton and John Holman (Wormit).

The Third & Fourth place decided to share their prize - Gerald Cooper & John Marshall (Crail) and Stewart O'Brien & Derek Mulherron (Wormit).

J.B Penman Butchers

J.B Penman Butcher is proud to be a 4th generation, traditional, family-run butcher in Crail. In 1926, the business opened at the top of the Shoregate by John Burgess Penman who is Keith’s great, great uncle. Shortly after World War 2, the business was taken over by John Hutchon & John Cleghorn who moved the business in 1953 to where it is now, on the High Street. In the late 70’s after serving his apprenticeship and working a few years under the current owners, Tom (Keith’s father) was brought into the business before taking full ownership in the 80’s. In 1991, Keith was made a partner when he was just 21 years old. Keith took full ownership of the business when Tom retired in 2012. In recent years, Keith’s son Kyle became a partner in the business - completing 4 generations of Crail’s excellent butcher.

With a shop in both Crail and Anstruther, they offer the highest quality of beef, lamb, pork, poultry, & lots more, and deliver throughout the East Neuk, St Andrews & surrounding areas.
