European Cargo, the Bournemouth Airport-based freight airline operating Airbus A340 freighters, has entered administration after six years of operations.
The airline, which played a key role in transporting PPE during the COVID-19 pandemic and helped establish Bournemouth as a growing UK cargo hub, appointed joint administrators from Teneo Financial Advisory on 3 June.
Reports suggest employees were informed of redundancies during a company-wide Microsoft Teams meeting, although administrators have yet to formally confirm the scale of job losses.
European Cargo had become a significant presence at Bournemouth Airport, operating long-haul freight services and supporting the airport’s Cargo First expansion strategy. The future of the airline, its fleet, routes, and workforce now remains uncertain as administrators assess the business.
What do you think led to European Cargo’s collapse? 👇✈️

Virgin Atlantic flight VS165 from London Heathrow to Montego Bay made an emergency diversion to Shannon Airport after experiencing an in-flight engine issue over the North Atlantic. The Airbus A330 was carrying 259 passengers and 13 crew members when the crew identified a problem with one of its Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines and shut it down as a precaution.
Route: London Heathrow → Montego Bay
Diversion: Shannon Airport, Ireland
259 passengers and 13 crew onboard
Aircraft landed safely with no injuries reported
The crew followed standard procedures and continued the flight safely on the remaining engine before landing in Shannon, where emergency services were standing by. The incident once again highlights the extensive training, procedures and aircraft systems that ensure modern air travel remains one of the safest forms of transportation.

Turkish Airlines has confirmed it has been in discussions to acquire between 7 and 10 former Spirit Airlines Airbus aircraft following the US carrier’s bankruptcy earlier this month.
With aircraft delivery delays continuing to affect airlines worldwide, acquiring relatively young, ready-to-fly aircraft could help Turkish maintain its ambitious growth plans while avoiding lengthy waits for new Airbus deliveries.
The airline currently operates a fleet of more than 480 aircraft and is still expecting dozens of new widebody deliveries over the next four years. However, rising fuel costs have already forced network adjustments, with 21 routes recently cut from its schedule.
Would buying former Spirit aircraft be a smart move for Turkish Airlines?
Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

An Emirates Airbus A380 operating Flight EK215 from Dubai to Los Angeles made an unscheduled emergency landing at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport after the crew reported a technical issue while over the United States.
The world’s largest passenger aircraft diverted safely, with emergency services meeting the aircraft on arrival. According to reports, the crew followed established procedures and worked with air traffic control to ensure a safe outcome for everyone on board.
While emergency diversions often attract attention, they are a normal part of aviation’s multiple layers of safety. Pilots, cabin crew, air traffic controllers, engineers, and airport emergency services train extensively for these situations to ensure passengers remain safe.
The aircraft later underwent inspections while airline teams worked to minimise disruption to passengers and onward travel plans.
