Our Oakwood U18s had a tough day at the office, but a superb analysis from manager Phil and even better to read that theyve identified what they need to concentrate on in training. Losing is all part of the game, its how we learn and respond to the loses that defines us! 🖤❤️
Oakwood 2 Roffey 3.
The oaks started the game well with plenty of possession but lacked urgency and quality when it was needed. Eventually the opposition got into the game and took the lead with their first attack. A lack of concentration and a bright sun blinded the Oaks keeper for Roffeys 2nd. Not Soon after
the oaks found themselves 3 down and it could have been 4 if the Roffey player had slotted his penalty which was awarded 5 mins after going down 0-3. The Oaks had a lifeline on the stroke at halftime when they were awarded a penalty but the Roffey keeper made an outstanding save. 3 out of 4 pens missed means there is an obvious issue to address in training.
The 2nd half was a different story, the Oaks reverted to a more compact 4-4-2 and came out with the urgency and desire they lacked in the first 45, they wasted two one on one chances before a fine worked move down the right hand side led to Stan Murphy finding his opposite winger Callum Jackson to drill the ball home, the come back was on. 12 minutes later and the Oaks had a second when they took advantage of confusion in the box with Albi Peters finding Adam Bouabbane to smash home.
The ball was only going one way, it was all in the Roffey half but some superb saves, a hit post that lead to a goalmouth scrabble with the ball running along the line with no red and black shirt near it meant the come back wasn’t completed. Luck was not on our side this week nor did we compete enough for 2nd balls.
A hard to take 2-3 loss.
