The relationship you have with your practice is often a rerun of relationships you have had before.

If you grew up over-explaining yourself to a parent who did not really listen, you probably over-explain your work to clients now.

If you grew up in a household where money was tense, you probably feel tense every time you set a price.

If you were taught that being noticed was dangerous, your visibility issues are not really about visibility. They are about safety.

None of this is a personal failing.

It is a pattern that predates your business by decades.

The work of a practitioner at a certain stage is to notice which of your professional behaviours are actually old family behaviours in a different costume.

Once you see it, the pattern loses some of its grip.

But enough that you can start making decisions from present-day you rather than from a version of you that was still trying to survive something.

I have watched practitioners transform their businesses this way.

Through recognising which parts of their approach to work were inherited and gently letting those parts step back.
