Team Longshot

Team Longshot http://www.adidas-ar.com/2012/terrex/ Back in January when New Years resolutions were still being followed, Siana was contemplating the year ahead.

Deciding she needed some motivation for 2012 she looked up the most dramatic, adrenaline fueled, gnarly adventure race she could find in the UK, lured in three fools and Team Longshot was created. Adidas Terrex Adventure Race 2012
STING in Stirling 18th - 25th August

500km over 5 days starting and finishing in Stirling. The race will include fell running, mountain biking, orienteering, canoeing and a few hardcore surprises. "Race background - When London won the 2012 Olympic bid two of the UK's leading adventure race organisers, Nick Gracie and James Thurlow had the idea of creating a large expedition style Adventure Race in the UK to take place after the Olympics. 'The whole of the UK will be glued to the Olympics in the summer of 2012 and we want to give all those adventure athletes and adventure enthusiasts out there an athletic goal of their own for 2012"

Well the team has made a decision to postpone entering the sting and build up to an event of that size .......any suggestions for our next alternative challenge?

Thanks to everyone for all the wishes of good luck...our first foray into adventure racing went well, a lot of lessons learned in the beautiful lake District. Mainly what we need to work on in order to last five days of Adventure racing in the future!!

Night Navigation Training

22/04/2012

Sarah, Andrew and Siana from Team LongShot did a night navigation training exercise on Friday night hit the hill at about 9pm and didn't get back in until after 2am. Low cloud and drizzle made the conditions a little more challenging but we think we did ok. The aim was to use the two cairns as checkpoints along the route, which we managed, even though you couldn't see them until you were right next to them, here is the route summary (images above hopefully):

Our direct bearing from Carn Tuairneir to the saddle didn't work because of the stream, and we did circles onto the trig point:
..and Andrew confessed that he was completely wrong about which side of the hill we were erring on on that first high ridge, resulting in us going round in a circle:

Not too bad though.

Well done Siana, Adam and Andrew for completing the Edinburgh Rock n' Roll half marathon on Sunday, all times under 2 hours. Way to go!

Cardio is handling the longer runs no problem....left knee...not playing ball!! Any advice from fellow team members? Or anyone else?
