A huge congratulations to Ethan Lawman, who has been awarded the first ever James McKinlay Memorial Fearless Wrestler Award.

Ethan was chosen by the coaching team in recognition of his determination, resilience and commitment to training and positive attitude.

A fantastic achievement and a very worthy first winner of an award created in memory of James McKinlay.

Well done Ethan and congratulations from everyone at Tryst Lions Wrestling Club! 🏆

🏆 James McKinlay Memorial Fearless Wrestler Award

Tomorrow evening we’ll be presenting the first James McKinlay Memorial Fearless Wrestler Award.

James McKinlay was a former Tryst Lions wrestler from the days when the club was based at Greenfaulds Sports Centre. His connection with the club goes back many years and he was part of a generation of wrestlers who helped shape the club.

The award has been created by Stewart James’s son, in memory of his dad and to celebrate the qualities that James himself embodied.

This award isn’t for the best wrestler or the wrestler with the most medals. It recognises a young wrestler who has demonstrated:

• Fearlessness and courage
• Determination and resilience
• Willingness to take on challenges
• Commitment to training
• A positive attitude
• Willingness to compete and test themselves
• Ability to overcome setbacks
• Supporting and encouraging others

The winner has been chosen by the Tryst Lions coaching team, based on what we’ve seen from our wrestlers throughout the previous training season. The award also includes a cash prize towards the winner’s wrestling development.

We really appreciate such a thoughtful way of supporting our young wrestlers and such a meaningful way to remember James and the qualities he valued.

👟 No outdoor trainers on the mat
🧼 Good hygiene before and after training
🔎 Be aware of ringworm and other skin infections

🇺🇸🤼 What an incredible experience!
Our Tryst Lion Connor has returned from Iowa after proudly representing Scotland at the AAU Junior Olympic Games.
Connor had an amazing tournament bringing home two silver🥈 individual silver medals and a team Scotland bronze medal 🥉
We couldn’t be prouder of how he competed and held his own against some fantastic American wrestlers.

Thank you to those who supported Connor and made this trip happen. The experience, friendships made and memories created will last a lifetime.

We’re already looking forward to welcoming the American team to Scotland in March 2027! 🇺🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

🥇 Congratulations to Tryst Lion wrestler Connor Edwards on bringing home the gold medal at the Stef Kurpas Memorial Cup 2026 in Manchester this weekend! 💪🔥
A fantastic achievement and a reward for all the hard work and dedication put in on and off the mat.
