⚽️ HAVE YOU LOT NOT GOT WORK IN THE MORNING? 😂

We’ve barely recovered from Saturday and the Ayrshire leagues are back at it TONIGHT.

After 90 goals in 19 games on opening day, I’m almost frightened to ask what Monday night has in store for us. Apparently easing ourselves into the new season wasn’t an option. 😂

🏆 PREMIER LEAGUE

There are some cracking games tonight and, yes, I know it’s only game number two… but that won’t stop us massively overreacting to the league table afterwards. 👀😂

Dailly v Forehill sees two sides looking for their first points of the season.

Forehill got a rather warm 6-0 welcome to the Premier League from New Farm Loch on Saturday. 😬
The good news lads? You only had about 48 hours to think about it. 😂

Kilbride Thistle v Largs Thistle is a belter — two of last season’s promoted sides and both opening their Premier campaigns with wins. Something has to give tonight.

Early league leaders New Farm Loch travel to Mauchline after that six-goal opening-day performance. Another result tonight and people will inevitably start mentioning the title after approximately four days of football. 😂

And the champions Shortlees are back in action against West Kilbride after starting their title defence with a 3-0 win on Saturday.

Whitletts Victoria host Troon Dundonald with both sides looking for their first league win.

Irvine Thistle v Glenburn has been rearranged for Tuesday night at Prestwick Academy, so they’ll have to wait another 24 hours before joining the fun.

🔵 DIVISION TWO

We’ve also got three games in Division Two tonight.

Cumnock v Coylton Wanderers catches the eye after Coylton’s 5-0 opening-day win. Cumnock also started with three points, so that’s another early meeting between two winning sides.

Dean Thistle host Caledonian, while New Cumnock finally get to start their league campaign against Catrine after sitting watching everybody else have all the fun on Saturday. 😂

🕡 Most games kick off at 6:45pm tonight, but check the teams pages for locations and KO times.

Summer football, Monday night football and hopefully another bucket-load of goals.

First league Saturday of 2026/27 done and dusted.

19 games. 90 goals. ONE draw.

Apparently defending was still optional in most of Ayrshire today. 😂

After a quiet pre-season from me, I thought I’d ease myself back into the Saturday results posts gently… then you lot produced 90 goals. Cheers for that. 🤦‍♂️

PREMIER DIVISION 🏆

Let’s start with the champions.

Shortlees, last season’s Ayrshire Premier League AND Scottish Cup winners, began the defence of their title with a professional-looking 3-0 win over Mauchline.

New season, same Shortlees? Far too early for that chat… although I’m sure somebody from Shortlees will tell us it isn’t. 😂

But arguably the biggest talking point in the Premier came from the new boys.

Forehill, First Division champions last season, waited all summer for their first ever game in the top flight…

Forehill 0-6 New Farm Loch.

Welcome to the Premier League lads. 😂😂

I’m sure that’s exactly how the promotion party imagined it going.

They’ll bounce back — but New Farm Loch certainly weren’t interested in easing them into their new surroundings and sit top after week one.

The other promoted sides clearly didn’t read the same welcome pack.

Kilbride Thistle announced their arrival with an excellent 5-2 win over Troon Dundonald, while Largs Thistle also took three points with a 4-2 victory over Dailly.

So two of the promoted sides win immediately and Forehill discover that the Premier can be a cruel place. Football, eh? 😂

Glenburn also started strongly with a 4-0 win over West Kilbride, while Irvine Thistle and Whitletts Vics finished 1-1 — remarkably the ONLY DRAW IN ALL THREE DIVISIONS.

Someone had to be sensible.

FIRST DIVISION ⚽️

If there was one fixture that caught my eye beforehand, it was Bellfield v Troon Town.

Troon Town coming up from the Second.

Surely the team coming down would be showing the new boys what life at the higher level is all about…

Apparently not.

Nine goals and three points heading back to Troon. If that’s Troon Town’s idea of quietly settling into the First Division, I’m looking forward to seeing what happens when they get confident.

Beith weren’t interested in a gentle start either, winning 6-1 away at Cambusdoon and taking the early top spot.

Dirrans and Crosshouse decided defending was overrated as well — 5-3 Dirrans — while Girdle Vics, Galston and Minishant all started with wins.

SECOND DIVISION ⚽️

And finally the Second Division, where apparently somebody forgot to tell Bothan Vics it was only the first game of the season.

Caledonian 1-7 Bothan Vics. 😳

Seven.

On opening day.

Calm yourselves down lads, we’ve got a whole season to get through. 😂

Coylton weren’t exactly taking things easy either with a 5-0 win over Darvel Vics, while Ayr AFC hit five against Blacks.

Kilmarnock, Cumnock, Kilwinning and Dean Thistle also start with three points.

So after one Saturday we’ve learned absolutely nothing…

…apart from apparently nobody in Ayrshire spent pre-season practising defending. 😂

Before anybody gets carried away — nobody has won anything after one game and nobody’s season is finished after one defeat.

Although looking at some of those scorelines, there might be a few managers suddenly arranging an extra training night this week. 👀😂

⚽️ WE’RE BACK… THE 2026/27 SEASON STARTS TODAY! ⚽️

It’s been a wee while since I’ve posted on here. Pre-season has come and gone, squads have been built, new players have arrived, plenty of friendlies have been played and I’m sure every manager in Ayrshire is currently convinced they’ve had a great pre-season 😂

But none of that matters now.

Today the real stuff starts.

A brand new Ayrshire Amateur Football season gets underway with 39 clubs across our three divisions, all starting again from zero.

The Premier League looks as competitive as ever. Twelve teams, some familiar names, some new challenges and I genuinely think there could be a few surprises in there this season.

The First Division certainly doesn’t look any easier. Another 12-team league where there won’t be many straightforward Saturdays and where putting a good run together could make all the difference.

And then we have a 15-team Second Division, with a brilliant mixture of clubs and plenty of teams looking to make their mark and start climbing the Ayrshire amateur ladder.

That’s one of the things I love about this time of year. Nobody has a point. Nobody is top. Nobody is bottom. Nobody knows yet who’s going to be this season’s surprise package.

That all starts changing this afternoon.

There are some cracking opening-day fixtures across all three divisions and, after weeks of pre-season football, I think everyone involved will be delighted to finally see a league table that actually means something.

To every player, manager, coach, committee member, referee and volunteer involved today — good luck for the season ahead.

We won’t always agree, there will undoubtedly be a few arguments along the way 😂, but ultimately we all want the same thing — a strong, competitive and thriving amateur game here in Ayrshire.

So let’s get the 2026/27 season underway. ⚽️
