Croesy Womens 1-3 Aberfan Women’s

We start the season with a loss…..

A tough game against a good Aberfan side saw the visitors take the points in a very competitive game at Woodland Road.

Croesy started brightly and had the visitors on the ropes early doors as Croesy took the game to Aberfan. A few missed opportunities coupled with a solid showing from Aberfan’s Keeper kept Croesy at bay. Croesy took the lead with a cracking goal. The ball was played forward to Mel Fortier who’s flicked pass found Amy Price who threaded a perfect pass into Molly Tozer who’s touch and finish found the top corner.

The goal sparked Aberfan into action however and they responded well and put Croesy under some serious pressure with home GK Maia Brown making 2 really good saves before Aberfan equalised with a superb goal of their own. A ball played forward to Aberfan’s striker Sullivan was dummied by her, leaving Croesy’s defence standing. Sullivan showed why she scored so many goals last season with a classy finish across Croesy’s keeper.

HT 1-1

Croesy started the 2nd half with some early pressure looking to get back infront but the final ball was just lacking somewhat. Aberfan again got back in the ascendency with some good attacking play through their pacy, tricky wingers and a few close efforts were dealt with by Meg Stuckey in the home goal.

Aberfan took the lead with a long range effort which game after a bit of confusion with both teams appealing for a foul after a mix up in the Croesy defence the ball was poked to Aberfans player who struck a long range effort to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

Croesy huffed and puffed and the defence and midfield tried repeatedly to get the ball to the final third but the quality wasn’t quite there today, despite our best efforts. Aberfan killed the game off in the dying minutes of the game as Croesy pushed for an equaliser, the ball was lost in defence and the Aberfan midfielder ran through and slotted a nice finish past Meg.

A lot of positives to take from today and some fine tuning required ahead of our next game away at Penywaun next week, which will be another tough game.

Whilst these individual awards were won last night, the whole squad was recognised and applauded for their effort, endeavour, application and the team spirit demonstrated in bucket loads across the course of the season.

We cant wait for the 26/27 to get underway!
