Darlington Spraire Lads & Lasses

Very proud of the boys tonight after a hard fought friendly against a strong and well organised Heighington side.

The lads played some lovely football, showed plenty of fight in the tackles, and scored some great individual and team goals. It was also brilliant to get some valuable minutes in the legs ahead of the new season in September.

Well done to everyone! Every single player gave their all and played brilliantly. A special shout out to our Player of the Match, Maurice, who was solid at the back, picked up every loose ball, and used his strength and skill brilliantly throughout the game.

💛 Another strong victory for Spraire today at a comfortable 5-2 making it 5/5 for preseason!💛

The game starts intensely with both sides clearing chances off the line in the opening minutes.

The scoring opens at 15’ when Katie B, following a scramble around the box, finishes the ball into the top right corner. 1-0 Spraire.

At 19’ Consett equalise: Solid play sees a chance well saved but parried only as far as the edge of the six yard box and finished from close.

Then at 25’ it’s 2-1 Consett. A ball played over the top is not dealt with properly then finished from close range to extend the lead.

At 27’ Consett’s keeper rushes out of the box to save an effort from Katie, and in the process handballs it outside the box - a free kick is given in a display of friendly sportsmanship, and Consett keep 11 men.

At 30’ it’s 2-2: Another freekick is won and crossed in by Katie S and finds Katie B for another finish to level the game.

Soon after at 36’ Katie B completes her hattrick after rounding the defenders and with a fantastic finish from outside the box to beat the keeper near post. 3-2 Spraire for half time.

Second half sees chances from both sides, but Spraire come out on top of pressure and possession.

At 54’ Spraire get another goal after good build up play from Sara and Bella at the back, through to the middle and on to Ella up top who crosses it into Ellie-Mae to finish one from close range. 4-2 Spraire.

At 70’ Consett come close to closing the gap during a corner which isn’t dealt with initially and leads to a scramble - Sara F makes two goal line saves on the bounce to keep Consett at bay, finally headed away by Chloe.

Then at 82’ Spraire seal the game when a great switched ball from Tia finds Ellie Mae who plays Beth in. Beth takes a touch and sliding finishes from range placing the ball over the keeper, ending the game 5-2.
