⚽ Sidmouth Town U15s 0 v 7 DUFC U15s Knights ⚽
The Knights took to the road today as they headed to Sidmouth for league game number 2 of the season.
On a smaller pitch than they are used to, it took the lads a bit of time to find their rhythm, but they continued to play the calm football they have become so good at.
Sidmouth had the first clear chance of the game when the striker weaved past two Knights defenders and was brought down in the box for a penalty. The Sidmouth player stepped up and hit the shot, but Charlie stood strong and made the save. A wake-up call for the Knights.
The Knights started to settle into the game, and Corey and Pricey down the wings began to cause problems for the Sidmouth defence.
The Knights broke the deadlock when Dex directed a header over the top of the defence for Mason to run on to. He rounded the keeper well and slotted home. Not long after, Mason doubled the score when he got on to a pinpoint ball forward from Pricey. He touched it inside and finished brilliantly into the top corner.
Charlie commanded his area, and Ashton, Zach, Taylor and Frankie were a solid unit at the back, working together to stop Sidmouth getting through.
Oscar used his strength well in the middle and got the pass to Luca, who played a brilliant pass forward. Mason knocked it on to Logan, who hit the shot with great technique on the half volley, across the goal and into the bottom corner, to end the half 3 v 0.
In the second half, the Knights turned it up a gear and played some really direct attacking football.
Mason finished his hat-trick with a great shot into the corner, and then added a 4th when he brought down a great ball forward from Jack, rounded the keeper and put the ball into the net.
Goal number six started at the back, with Taylor feeding the ball forward. Dex collected and slotted it through to Pricey, who played a perfectly weighted pass forward for Mason. Mason hit it first time over the keeper, who got fingers to it, but the power took it into the back of the net.
The game crept towards the end, but the Knights continued to create chances, with Zach and Corey both unlucky not to add their names to the scoresheet.
Pricey picked up the ball in the box and tried to wriggle away from the defender who had hold of him, and was pulled to the ground to give the Knights a penalty. Pricey stepped up and slotted it into the bottom corner.
The final whistle blew, and the Knights came away with a well-earned 3 points.
A fantastic team performance once again. With 3 players missing, plus injuries and illness on the day, the lads put in a quality performance, with positivity, great communication and 110% effort throughout.

A standout performance up top from Mason today. He was constantly looking for space and making some great runs in behind the defence. He showed so much composure on the ball in front of goal and was involved in six out of the seven goals, putting five away himself and getting an assist as well.
